In a momentous step towards bolstering India’s electric mobility landscape, Pepper Motion is on the brink of embarking on a groundbreaking endeavor. The company, amidst heightened anticipation, is gearing up to ceremoniously lay the foundation stone for what is slated to become the world’s most extensive electric bus manufacturing unit. Spanning an expansive 800 acres, this ambitious venture is strategically positioned in the serene locale of Punganur, within the Chittoor district.

The forthcoming establishment, set to revolutionize the electric vehicle sector, signifies a remarkable commitment from Pepper Motion. The scale of this enterprise is underscored by a substantial investment of Rs 4,640 crore, marking a significant milestone in the company’s pursuit of sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. As the wheels of progress set into motion, the Punganur project promises not only to reshape the landscape of electric bus manufacturing but also to contribute significantly to the economic development of the region.

During the meeting, Chief Minister YS Jagan briefed the representatives from Pepper Motion about the Andhra Pradesh Government’s initiatives in the realms of green energy, industrial policies, streamlined single window permits, and transparent policies. In response, Andreas Hager conveyed the company’s commitment to establish a manufacturing unit capable of producing 30,000 electric buses and trucks annually. 

Additionally, Hager outlined the company’s plans to institute an integrated vertical production facility, focusing on the manufacturing of electric buses and trucks equipped with 20 GWH capacity batteries. The company’s ambitious agenda also includes setting up a unit adhering to international standards, retrofitting diesel buses and trucks into electric vehicles, and manufacturing batteries with a capacity of 20 GWH.

“We are very happy to set up a world class unit in Andhra Pradesh. Our company is going to set up the unit with the most advanced technology, vehicles will be manufactured from our unit to bring a decarbonized public transport system as required for public transport,” Andreas Hager said and added that setting up a unit in AP was the right decision by the company. 

The Pepper Motion CEO said, “The unit is coming up close to Bengaluru and Chennai cities. The support given to us by the Andhra Pradesh Government is unforgettable. I am very thankful to the Chief Minister and am impressed by his visionary thinking and policies. The company will also partner in Asia, Middle East and Africa through the Global Center of Excellence being set up in Andhra Pradesh.”
