Amidst much anticipation and excitement, Xiaomi recently debuted its first electric car, the SU7. However, since its launch, the vehicle has faced a barrage of complaints and concerns regarding its quality and reliability. Multiple owners have reported experiencing issues shortly after purchasing the SU7, with some encountering breakdowns mere kilometers into their ownership. These developments have raised questions about the hurried launch of Xiaomi’s EV and its ability to deliver a dependable driving experience to consumers.

Quality Concerns Surface Early

Since its recent entry into the electric vehicle market, Xiaomi’s SU7 has been flawed by reports of quality issues. Several owners have found themselves in precarious situations shortly after purchasing the EV, with breakdowns occurring mere kilometers into their ownership. One particular incident, where a bright blue SU7 shut down while driving on a highway, has sparked widespread concerns about the vehicle’s reliability.

Customer’s Plight Raises Red Flags

In a distressing turn of events, one owner faced a breakdown just 39 kilometers into owning the SU7. The vehicle displayed warnings of an imminent stop and a faulty drive system, rendering it unable to shift between drive and reverse. Despite attempts by technicians at the delivery center to diagnose the issue, the problem persists. The car is now slated for return to the factory for further analysis. Requests for a replacement vehicle have been met with Xiaomi’s response that all assembled models are allocated, leaving the customer stranded without a solution.

Resolution Efforts Fall Short

With the owner’s request for a replacement vehicle unfulfilled, Xiaomi has committed to arranging a full refund and compensating for any associated expenses. However, this incident is indicative of broader concerns regarding the SU7’s quality. Paint problems and doubts about the effectiveness of the traction control system have been reported by some owners, further exacerbating the situation.

Technical Glitches 

Xiaomi has acknowledged an issue with the SU7’s Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system, which remains inactive beyond 135 kmph until an over-the-air update is deployed. This revelation adds to the growing list of technical glitches plaguing the EV, raising doubts about its overall reliability and safety.

Well, this is not the first time that Xiaomi SU7 has faced major complaints. Extended wait times for deliveries, accusations of failing to honor a money-back guarantee, and reports of several crashes were some of the incidents that further tarnished the image of the SU7. Here are some of them:


According to a Reuters report those who ordered an SU7 Pro had to wait 18 to 21 weeks (around four to five months) to get their vehicles. Worse still, those who ordered the top-of-the-range SU7 Max had to wait as long as 30 weeks, or seven and a half months, to receive their vehicle.


Xiaomi has faced challenges as reports surface of drivers losing control of demonstrator vehicles, circulating on Chinese social media. Concerns arise regarding the adequacy of its traction control system, given the rapid emergence of crash evidence. 


It’s concerning to see Xiaomi, a tech giant known for its mobile phones, encountering significant hurdles with its debut electric vehicle, the SU7. From delivery delays to technical glitches and even reports of accidents, the road hasn’t been smooth for the SU7. For Xiaomi to truly make its mark in the competitive EV industry, it’s crucial for the company to address these issues promptly.
