The Vespa Elettrica is an electric scooter that was showcased at Auto Expo 2020. Although it might not be available in India, One of the reasons is that Piaggio believes that there is a natural restriction on the level of localisation a company can manage for electric vehicles in India, and this is preventing it from launching any electric two-wheelers here.

Piaggio says that most of the powertrain components for electric scooters are still not available in India but have to be imported from China or other parts of the world, which makes the cost of production too high for its kind of product proposition Vespa is considering producing an electric scooter locally.

Another reason is that India lacks adequate charging infrastructure and a robust supply-chain system for electric vehicles, which discourages established manufacturers from entering the electric two-wheeler space.

This scooter features a 4kW electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, allowing it to cover up to 100 km in Eco mode or 70 km in Power mode on a single charge. It takes 3.5 hours to fully charge using a 220V socket.
