In a preview last year, Toyota showcased its forthcoming midsize electric SUV through the Urban SUV concept, essentially mirroring Maruti’s eVX. This vehicle represents Toyota’s inaugural electric offering for the Indian market. Anticipated to hit the market six months after Maruti’s EV launch in March 2025, the production version of the Urban SUV concept is expected to be available in Indian showrooms by September-October 2025.

Let’s delve into the key details of Toyota’s debut electric SUV:

DESIGN AND STYLING

Toyota unveiled the Urban SUV concept, disclosing dimensions akin to the Maruti eVX, measuring 4,300mm in length, 1,820mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, with a shared 2,700mm wheelbase. The design mirrors Toyota’s recent electric vehicles, featuring edgy surfaces, C-shaped LED daytime running lamps, and a rugged, upright SUV silhouette reminiscent of the bZ compact SUV concept. Notably, the rear end draws similarities with the eVX, displaying familiar doors and a glass house, albeit with rear door handles positioned on the C-pillar.

While Toyota kept the interior of the Urban SUV concept under wraps, parallels with the eVX are anticipated, fostering commonality and parts sharing. The vehicle is built on an EV skateboard platform and is expected to offer ample space and flexibility. Mirroring its Maruti counterpart, the Urban SUV concept is likely to boast a plush interior equipped with an extensive array of creature comforts, safety features, and cutting-edge technology.
