Gogoro Inc. a Taiwanese based pioneering force in battery-swapping ecosystems for sustainable city mobility solutions, has launched its battery swapping ecosystem and Smartscooters in India. Alongside this, the company unveiled its first India-made Smartscooter, the CrossOver GX250.

Market Expansion Strategy

Initially targeting B2B customers in Delhi and Goa, Gogoro aims to expand to Mumbai and Pune in the first half of 2024. The company plans consumer availability in the second quarter of 2024.

Additionally, Maharashtra and Gogoro teamed up for a big project and invested $1.5 Billion in manufacturing and deploying Smart Battery Infrastructure in India. The state offered Gogoro a chance to make vehicles, smart batteries, and swap stations there, starting at the end of 2023. Chief Minister Shri. Eknath Shinde shared this news at a press conference for the Maharashtra government.

Horace Luke’s Perspective

“We are at the cusp of a dramatic change in the global urban transportation landscape, and with its more than 250 million mopeds and motorcycles India is well positioned to lead the shift to sustainable consumer and B2B transportation,” said Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro. “The Gogoro CrossOver series embodies everything our brand has come to stand for and the new made-in-India CrossOver GX250 is optimized for riders in India with more seating space, greater storage, and better ground clearance.”

Gogoro CrossOver Series: Innovating Sustainable Mobility

Redefined Design and Features

The CrossOver series is built on an updated all-terrain frame, prioritizing comfort and versatility. It offers enhanced storage, riding, and customization options. Gogoro plans to release three models in India: CrossOver GX250, CrossOver 50, and CrossOver S. While the GX250 is available now, the 50 and S models are scheduled for a 2024 release.

CrossOver GX250

Manufactured in Maharashtra, the CrossOver GX250 is Gogoro’s inaugural India-made Smartscooter. It amalgamates Gogoro’s innovative features with India-specific enhancements requested by pilot riders.

Enhanced Features for Indian Roads

The GX250 boasts an all-terrain chassis for diverse road conditions, providing increased strength and stability. With 176mm of ground clearance, it surpasses Gogoro’s current vehicle lineup in elevation.

Performance and Adaptability

Powered by a 2.5 kW Direct Drive, the GX250 achieves a top speed of 60+kph and a certified range of 111km. Its robust frame design enhances suspension durability and accommodates larger loads, emphasizing stability and comfort.

Versatile Cargo Capability

The GX250 offers ample storage with a versatile mounting point expansion system comprising 26 locking points. It facilitates passenger riding space and four cargo areas, including a platform design headlight, foot, seat, and rear cargo space. The rear seat can be adjusted or removed for added cargo storage.

Recognition and Certification

India’s ICAT certified the GX250 in August, while Gogoro received recognition from SIDBI in November, making it the first foreign two-wheel OEM to receive such acknowledgment.

“Gogoro was uniquely created to introduce a mass market shift to sustainable energy in densely populated cities by establishing an intelligent battery swapping ecosystem for vehicle refueling that is safe, scalable, and open. There has been significant demand in India for Gogoro battery swapping, Smartscooters and technologies and we are excited to be launching commercially with a variety of partners,” said Luke. “On average, last mile delivery riders ride more than six-times the distance as consumer riders, so enabling these delivery riders to adopt smart sustainable electric transportation can have an accelerated impact on a city.”

Commercial Partnerships: Driving Sustainable Solutions

Collaborations Across Industries

Gogoro collaborates with various partners in India across three core business categories:

  • Businesses and Fleet Operators: Enabling sustainable transportation for delivery companies and logistics fleets transitioning from traditional ICE vehicles.
  • Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS): Partnering with companies like FutureEV to promote shared mobility-as-a-service opportunities using the GoShare platform.
  • Turnkey Solution: Working with partners like Nebula Energy in Nepal to deploy battery swapping and Smartscooters.

Partnering for Sustainable Growth

Continuing Partnerships

Gogoro continues its partnerships with Zypp Electric and FutureEV, fostering sustainable solutions in India’s mobility landscape. Zypp Electric integrates Gogoro into its fleet program, while FutureEV plans a scooter sharing service in Goa using Gogoro technology.

Expanding Reach to Nepal

Gogoro teams up with Nebula Energy, a subsidiary of MG Group in Nepal, to introduce battery swapping and Smartscooters, aiming for an environmentally sustainable Nepal.

Gogoro Battery Swapping: Pioneering Urban Energy Distribution

Advanced Battery Swapping Platform

Gogoro’s open and interoperable battery swapping platform is recognized as a leading solution for lightweight urban vehicles. Certified by ICAT, it offers smart, safe, and dynamic battery refueling.

Environmental Impact

The Gogoro Network in Taiwan, with nearly 600,000 riders and over 1.3 million smart batteries, has performed more than 510 million battery swaps, saving over 785,000 tons of CO2 since its inception in 2015.

Conclusion

Gogoro coming to India is a big step for making cities better for everyone. They brought in new scooters and a way to swap batteries easily. One scooter they made just for India, called the CrossOver GX250, shows they care about what people here need and want while also caring about the environment.

These scooters are made to handle different roads and have extra space for carrying things, which can help people in cities a lot. Gogoro also works with other companies to make sure more people can use these eco-friendly ways to get around.

They’re not just stopping in India – they’re also going to Nepal, and they’ve already done a lot of good in Taiwan. They want to help cities use energy better and keep things clean. Gogoro keeps finding new ways to make cities better to move around in, and they’re teaming up with more partners to do it. They’re leading the way in making city transport cleaner and smarter for everyone.
