Tata Nexon EV MAX has made a historic entry in the India Book of Records. The Nexon EV Max successfully climbed the world’s highest motorable road at the Umling La pass in Ladakh at an altitude of 19,024 feet above sea level. The pass is not just the highest in India but it is the highest in the world.
This challenge was undertaken when Leh was boiling with the Sun’s rays which makes a human uncomfortable at that temperature but Tata Nexon EV Max was as cool as cucumber. The journey started at 11,500 feet in Leh and ended at 19,024 feet at Umling La pass, covering all the way from 11,500 feet in Leh to 14,764 feet in Hanle and finally Umling La.
It is the first electric car to achieve this feat and showcases the inherent capabilities of Tata electric vehicles even in high altitude conditions. A team of expert drivers started the journey from Leh and completed this record on September 18, 2022.
What is the India Book of Records?
India Book of Records, as the name suggests, is the patron of the Indian record created in 2006. The 15th edition of the book (to 2020) was launched in 2019, making it the only book of records with the main editors from seven. Nation – Vietnam, Malaysia, America, Nepal, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Thailand are members of its board.

Tata Nexon EV Max has two variants XZ+ and XZ+ Lux which were launched in the month of May 2022 for INR 17.74-19.24 lakhs. The other specifications of the Nexon EV Max are 437 Kms range it has a motor power of 143hp and torque of 250Nm touching a top speed of 140kmph along with an acceleration of 0-100kmph in 8.9 seconds. The additional features of the EV are a wireless charger, a Harman sound system, rear disc brakes, electronic parking brakes instantaneous torque, ESP with i-VBAC, hill descent control, IP 67 rated battery pack and motor, auto-dimming IRVM, high ground clearance, high – Water wading capability, electronic parking brake, and auto vehicle hold enable it to operate in any terrain conditions, even though the world’s highest motorable road.

The multi-mode regen feature helps in adding height to the vehicle especially when it comes downhill. It is also compatible with multiple charging options such as DC fast charging, AC fast charging, or regular charging from any 15A plug point, allowing the user to work even in remote areas.
