Toyota BZ4X Electric Car
Toyota, at the Auto Expo 2023 showcased its first-ever electric car. The Toyota BZ4X which is available in some states of the U.S. can now be expected to hit the Indian markets soon. During the showcase at the Auto Expo 2023, there were no changes or improvements which could physically differentiate it from the global version.
Design
Simply put the Toyota bZ4X has a futuristic feel to it while maintaining its classic looks. As the world is moving towards a more minimalistic perspective Toyota has taken the right step and designed the bZ4X with the modern world in mind. The Toyota bZ4X does not include the front grill which is not necessary as it is an electric vehicle and the removal of it provides a cleaner look and feel to it. While not cleared at the Auto Expo the Indian variant of this car is expected to come in the same 9 color variants as the globally available units. Apart from these, the tail light of this car is a single continuous strip of LEDs which is now becoming an industry standard. One out-of-the-box design step Toyota has taken is that they have moved the charging port from the rear end to the front end.
Range
Internationally the Toyota bZ4X comes in 2 variants, a single and a dual motor variant. Both the variants are powered by a 71.4 kWh battery which can be charged by either a 120-volt or a 240-volt charger installed at home. The single-motor variant which features front-wheel drive has an expected range of around 400- 410 km on a single charge while the dual-motor variant supporting all-wheel drive has a range of around 360 km on a single charge. In a matter of range, this can be considered an average range and nothing extraordinary.
Features
Some of the notable features of the Toyota bZ4X include the addition of the e-TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform (which Toyota claims is helpful in making the overall riding of this car more comfortable), a 12.3 multimedia touchscreen display that supports Apple car play and Android auto, the option to get heated seats, wireless charging pads, and keyless entry.
Launch in India
Unfortunately, there is no information from Toyota about the launch of this car. Although they showcased it at the Auto Expo 2023 there is no official statement or plan stating that this EV will launch in India.
Conclusion
All in all, the Toyota bZ4X is an interesting car in terms of design, but when it comes to features and range this is right in place with the other competitors. The launch price of this vehicle will determine the overall performance in terms of sales as there are several other Indian EVs that provide a justified performance according to their price.
