Recent sightings show a heavily camouflaged prototype cruising under red temporary registration plates from Tamil Nadu, indicating tests are underway near Renault‑Nissan’s Chennai manufacturing base.

The test vehicle exhibits key cues of the model sold globally as the Dacia Spring EV, featuring:

  • Y‑shaped LED taillights, a rear washer/wiper, and steel wheels with covers

  • Body cladding, a raised ride height, pull‑up door handles, turn indicators mounted on ORVMs, and a rod‑type antenna rather than a shark‑fin unit

Specs & Range Expectations

All reports converge on the likely use of a 26.8 kWh battery pack paired with a ~65 hp electric motor, delivering approximately 220 km range on a single charge. AC charging (7 kW) and DC fast‑charging (30 kW, enabling 20‑80% charge in about 45 minutes) are expected. Source

The interior is anticipated to feature:

  • A 10.1‑inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

  • A 7‑inch fully digital instrument cluster

  • Additional conveniences like cruise control, V2L (vehicle to load) capability, power windows, and e‑shift gear lever

Renault Kwid EV India Launch & Pricing

Multiple sources now suggest a launch window of late 2025 to early 2026, with the India debut of this A‑segment EV likely marking Renault’s first fully electric offering here

Most notably, the ex‑showroom price is expected to fall between ₹7 lakh and ₹9 lakh, making it more affordable than key competitors such as the Tata Tiago EV (around ₹7.99 lakh) and MG Comet EV (~₹7.36 lakh without BaaS). Check out the top 5 electric cars under 10 lakhs list here.

Such pricing would strategically place it under the rumoured ₹10 lakh threshold, fueling expectations that it may become the most affordable EV in India at launch.
