Toyota Mirai: India’s first fuel cell EV launched with a 1300 km range. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched a pilot project for Mirai Hydrogen-based Advanced Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV).

The Toyota Mirai is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell battery pack and is capable of providing a range of up to 600 km on a full charge.

Toyota now holds the Guinness World Record for the longest range achieved by any fuel cell electric vehicle.

For the record, it was driven by Wayne Gedes, a professional hypermiler from America. In order to make the driving experience as realistic as possible, the Mirai was primarily operated during peak hours around Southern California.

On the first day, the car covered a distance of 761.22 km and the rest of 589.6 km was driven in 2 days. The 1,359.9 km ride was covered by consuming just 5.65 kg of hydrogen. While the BEV takes time to charge, the FCEV can be refueled in just 5 minutes.

The 2021 Toyota Mirai comes with three onboard cylinders for storing hydrogen. It comes with a peak power output of 172 hp and 300 Nm of maximum torque.

This car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.0 seconds. Mirai generates electricity by combining hydrogen with oxygen from the outside air.
