Honda Activa Electric 1 Top 10 Upcoming Electric Scooters in India by 2025Its first electric launch for the Indian market will likely be the Activa Electric.

Activa has been one of the best-selling scooters in India for years, so it’s only logical that the brand would offer the electric iteration of the iconic scooter to capitalize on its popularity.

Honda Activa Electric Design

The Honda Activa Electric is likely to feature a design similar to its ICE version in terms of its style. Thus, it can be anticipated to feature an LED headlamp, a wide front apron, and a flat seat.

In terms of features, the Activa Electric could come equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster and higher trims could get a touchscreen display, complete with connected tech and navigation.

Honda Activa Electric Platform

The company has developed an EV platform architecture that will make use of the existing ICE product line. This is being done to improve turnaround time and to enhance cost efficiency. Honda is focusing on the use of existing ICE assets and expertise to improve turnaround time as well as to enhance cost efficiency.

Honda Activa Electric Specs

As of now, detailed specifications are not available for the two-wheeler but the company did mention that its performance would be equal to its 110cc ICE sibling and would also feature in-vehicle infotainment.

Honda Activa Electric Motor

Honda recently revealed in its video teaser that the Activa Electric will make use of a swingarm-mounted motor instead of a mid-drive permanent magnetic synchronous (PMS) motor. This change in setup is much more practical to maintain and beneficial in terms of competitive pricing.

The brand is looking forward to launching a mass-market electric scooter and not entering the premium range at the moment.

Honda Activa Electric Battery

The Honda Electric model is also anticipated to have battery-swapping technology. The brand is also developing multiple battery technologies for its upcoming range to balance out cost aspects and varying user requirements. Most of the production will be done in-house.

At present, existing Honda models use nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) cell chemistry. For its upcoming electric models, Honda is reportedly working on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. These planned LFP cells would be used for the Electric Activa.

This will also help in the faster adoption of electric two-wheelers.

Honda Activa Electric Price and Rivals

The Honda Activa Electric is likely to compete with the Bajaj Chetak Electric, TVS iQube, Ather 450X, and Ola Electric S1 Gen 3. In terms of pricing, it is anticipated to be available in the market with a starting price of approximately Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).

Ola S1 Gen 3

Ola S1 Gen 3 1 Top 10 Upcoming Electric Scooters in India by 2025Ola recently revealed that it will be launching its new electric scooter S1 Gen 3 based on the new platform in January 2025. Originally, it was anticipated to hit the roads by March 2025. However, it seems Ola has fast-tracked the process and postponed its plans to January 2025.

Ola Electric confirmed the news that they will start delivering the Ola S1 Gen 3 scooters ahead of schedule in its recent quarterly report.

S1 Gen 3 Design

The Ola S1 Gen 3 electric scooter is designed to be futuristic, offering more power, range, performance, and efficiency compared to existing models. It gets a new and advanced platform that comprises of 3 major components- the battery pack, the motor, and the integrated control modules.

The Ola S1 Gen 3 electric scooter will have an integrated motor, battery, and electronics in a single box. That box would then be integrated with the scooter’s chassis.

An aluminum frame will also be built around the battery which will make it a stressed member.

This integration contributes to enhancing the structure, stability, and balance of the platform. It also optimizes the structure and makes its powertrain more compact and efficient.

This design not only maximizes space but also contributes in improving both the performance and efficiency of the scooters as well as in decreasing the overall vehicle weight.

S1 Gen 3 Motor

The Ola S1 Gen 3 will have a higher and more efficient torque output because the motor in the Gen 3 scooters will be a magnet and its components will be integrated with magnetized electrical coils instead of permanent magnets.

The core functions of the BMS, MCU, and other components will be merged into a single multi-core processor in the Gen 3 model.

Additionally, it will incorporate a new computing board to house all the ECUs in one place.

The EV system would also have the capability to integrate Ola’s Krutrim A.l. in the future and shall also include advanced safety features such as ADAS.

S1 Gen 3 Battery

The Ola S1 Gen 3’s battery pack will be an integral part of the EV’s structure and will be connected to the front and rear subframes of the electric scooter. This will help to enhance shock resistance, build strength and thermal efficiency.

The Gen 3 battery pack will make use of Ola’s brand new 4680 Bharat Cell whereby 4680 refers to an individual cell’s diameter of 46 mm and height of 80 mm.

These cells would have a higher energy density and are likely to improve energy density and fast charging capabilities.

In-house Developed Battery

These new cells, according to the brand, are stated to be developed entirely in India.

Ola Electric’s Founder and MD, Bhavish Aggarwal had previously revealed that the EV maker is currently developing lithium-ion cells at its Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu and these in-house developed battery cells shall be used in the Gen 3 platform.

S1 Gen 3 Specs

While the exact details of the range and performance have not been revealed, the modified structure of the Ola S1 Gen 3 will help increase the current range and shorten the charging period of the upcoming electric scooters.

It would offer an increase of 26% performance-wise and a 22.5% cost reduction over the previous-gen models.

Ola S1 Gen 3 Price and Rivals

The price of the Ola S1 Gen 3 would depend on the variant. However, it can be expected to have a starting price of Rs. 1 lakh.

The only difference is in the color scheme availability. The Burgman Electric will be available with a white and blue dual-tone color scheme that’s not available for its ICE version.

The specifics of the platform are still being under wraps. In contrast to the Burgman’s maxi scooter design, the Electric Burgman is expected to resemble a family scooter, more like the Suzuki Access 125.

However, it is unclear whether the brand would continue to use the Access type platform or if it indeed introduced a modified version of the Burgman electric scooter for India.

Electric Burgman Specs

Technical details of the Burgman Street electric aren’t out yet, more information will emerge in the next few days as we come closer to its debut.
