MG Windsor EV Review – Pros & Cons of India’s Best-Selling EV

MG Windsor EV Review

The MG Windsor EV, launched in September 2024, has boosted sales since then. JSW MG Motor’s highest monthly sales of 4,225 units were recorded in January this year.  and currently, this is the best-selling electric car in India.

In January 2025: 4,225 EVs, a growth of 251% year-on-year – 37% market share in the Indian electric four-wheeler market.

The MG Windsor EV has made headlines for its unique battery rental scheme, unlimited-kilometre warranty, and buyback offers.

But beyond these perks, how does it fare as an electric car on Indian roads? Let’s explore its design, features, and performance to find out.

Exterior Design: Bold and Unconventional

The Windsor EV stands out with its crossover-hatchback hybrid styling. Key highlights:

  • Futuristic front fascia: Connected LED daytime running lights, projector LED headlamps, and a sculpted bumper give it a space-age vibe.
  • Aerodynamic silhouette: A steeply raked A-pillar and 18-inch alloy wheels enhance efficiency. Electrically folding door handles add sophistication.
  • Rear design: Clean and minimalist with subtle French-inspired touches.

At 4.3 meters long, it matches rivals like the Hyundai Creta but offers a longer wheelbase for superior interior space.

Interior: Spacious and Premium

Built on MG’s dedicated EV skateboard platform, the Windsor EV maximizes cabin room:

  • Hector-like space: Rear knee room rivals larger SUVs (though under-thigh support is slightly compromised due to the raised floor).
  • Business-class comfort: Rear seats recline to 135°, and a “zero-gravity” mode transforms the cabin into a lounge (by folding the front passenger seat).
  • Practical storage: Large door pockets, a deep centre console, and a 64L boot (expandable to 1,156L) cater to families.

Drawbacks:

  • No rear sunshades, leading to heat buildup.
  • Only one rear AC vent.

Tech and Features: Minimalist Cabin, Maximalist Screen

  • 15.6-inch touchscreen: Dominates the dashboard with crisp graphics and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Laggy response at times.
  • Premium perks: Ventilated front seats, a fixed panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and a 360° camera (despite a glitchy 3D view).
  • Missing bits: No dual-zone AC or physical controls for mirrors/headlights (relies on touchscreen/voice commands).

Performance: Smooth but Range-Limited

  • 176 PS motor: Delivers instant torque in Normal mode (ideal for city drives). Eco/Sport modes trade efficiency for power.
  • Ride quality: Surprisingly plush, absorbing bumps effortlessly. Minimal cabin noise except tyre roar on rough roads.
  • Range anxiety: The 38 kWh battery claims 330 km but delivers 240–250 km realistically. Suitable for city commutes, not long highway trips.

Final Thoughts: Who Should Buy the MG Windsor EV?

This electric car shines as a stylish urban runabout with:

  • Head-turning design.
  • Spacious, premium cabin.
  • Smooth, silent driving experience.

Think twice if: You need frequent long drives (opt for the Tata Nexon EV Long Range instead).

Priced competitively, the Windsor EV is perfect for city dwellers prioritizing style and comfort over range.

Final Take: MG’s Windsor EV reimagines electric mobility with bold design and clever packaging. If your drives are mostly urban, this electric car is a compelling choice.
