Lapa Electric to Make India’s first Electric Scooter with Carbon Fiber Chassis

Lapa Electric is an electric scooter that came three years back with the founders’ experience dating back 25 years in the field of electronics and mechanical background.

They want to manufacture something out-of-the-box and thus they decide to build a carbon fiber electric scooter body. This will not only distinguish them from the rest of the audience but will introduce a lightweight luxury scooter, which has big space for the battery pack, the advantage of good service.

When asked, why they chose carbon fiber over other products, “We started working with a couple of companies in Europe and got knowledge on how to work with carbon fiber and these people have a lot of engineering capabilities now and also a lot of technical advancement in the product.”

Advantages of the Lapa Electric Scooter?

Lightweight: Carbon fiber is significantly lighter. It allows for better maneuverability and reduces the vehicle’s overall weight, which can result in increased range for electric vehicles.

Corrosion Resistance: Carbon fiber is highly resistant to corrosion extends the lifespan of the vehicle and reduces the need for frequent repairs or maintenance.

Strength and Stiffness: Carbon fiber is known for its exceptional strength and stiffness. It provides excellent structural durability.

Specifications

Battery Pack The scooter will be available in two battery pack variants.

Fixed battery with 4-5kW battery  

Portable battery pack with 2kW battery

The torque of the bike will be 54-60 Nm. The scooters are being developed in Bangalore with a space of 10,000 square feet. Charging Time 

Charging with a portable battery(Lapa Pod) that can be plugged in any place. Wireless charging stations all across different cities by the end of 2024 (long-term vision)

With 5A chargers, it will take 8 hours and with fast charging, it will take around 40-45 minutes.

Color Options

The scooter will be available in seven colors in partnership with Asian paints. The standard colors of the bike will be yellow, white, and black and they have some classic colors in purple, and gray matching the carbon fiber body.

In the words of the founder, “The particular manufacturing of carbon fiber is something which you have got from Europe and it is going to be the first time ever used two-wheeler in India the braking system it is and we call it an invisible braking system so this is a patented system which was developed with the Spanish startup so like this, we are working with a Sweden startup for our upcoming models but not right now for AI cameras and other things so the and another Croatian company for motor technology. With this, we are bringing a technology that has never been used in India.”

Q.1: When will the Lapa scooter launch in India?

Ans. The Lapa scooter will be launched in India by the mid of 2024.

Q.2: What will be the pricing of Lapa scooters?

Ans. The scooter will be a competitive product in the market or it might serve the luxury segment of the market.

Q.3: Can I personalize the Lapa electric scooter?

Ans. Lapa Electric is all about maintaining connections with the consumers, so yes the consumers will be given an option of personalizing the bike.

Q.4: Will the Lapa scooter have an application?

Ans. We’ll be having our app which is under development and it will be linked to the scooter and your backend everything will be recorded and machine-learned and post that we’ll be having the new updates coming up. We are working with a company in Sweden so hopefully in the coming year we’ll be recording a lot of other things visually as well on the bike in the coming year.

Q.5: Since Carbon Fiber is expensive, will it impact end buyers of the scooter?

Ans. In the words of the founder, “We understand carbon fiber is expensive because the technology is not available in India. If the technology is available, it can be mass producible then we can bridge the gap and the costs.”

Q.6: What will be the modes of booking and delivery of the Lapa scooters?

Ans. You can book the scooter either using a third-party app or through Lapa Electric website online. If not, you can book the scooter by visiting the experience center of Lapa Electric once it is launched in the market.
