Electric Scooters with Swappable Batteries in Indian Market

The Indian electric two-wheeler market has grown rapidly in recent times. But even now the low range anxiety in electric scooters is a matter of concern for users, to deal with this, companies are continuously bringing new technology to the market. Battery-swapping technology can play a big role in avoiding range anxiety. In India too, many companies are now looking at using battery-swapping technology. Through battery swapping, a discharged battery can be replaced with a fully charged battery in just a few minutes. Here is a list of companies and electric scooters with swappable batteries technology in India or will come to the market with this technology in the near future.

Bounce Infinity E1

The Bounce Infinity E1 is one of the least expensive (Rs. 89,999) electric scooters in India that has a battery that can be taken out and swapped at their swapping stations. The Bounce Infinity E1 is powered by a hub motor that makes 83 Nm of wheel torque and a battery pack that can be switched out. The 1.9KWhr lithium-ion battery with an IP67 grade takes 4 to 5 hours to be fully charged, and then it can go 85 km on a single charge. The Electric Scooter also provides a top speed of 65km/ph.

Gogoro 2 Series

The Taiwan-based electric scooter manufacturer company Gororo probably has the best battery-swapping network around the world. The Company is now ready to hit the Indian roads with its upcoming Gogoro 2 series electric scooter. Gogoro 2 and Gogoro 2 Plus are the two basic and plus versions of Gogoro 2 series. Specifications

Both the Version comes with a Top Speed of 87 kmph. Both Gogoro 2 and 2 Plus electric scooters have a top speed of 87 kmph. The continuous power output is 7.2 kW for Gogoro 2 and 6.4 kW for Gogoro 2 Plus. The difference in power output results in different claimed ranges – 85km on the 2 and 97km on the 2 Plus (On a Single Battery, a Dual Battery Pack will give a range of up to 170 Kms on a Single Charge).

Honda EM1

Recently Honda Global has revealed that they will launch two electric scooters in India by 2024. One of them will come with a fixed battery and the other will come with a swappable battery. Honda has its own battery-swapping network called Platform “E”. Currently, the company is planning to set up its battery-swapping network across various cities in India. The scooter coming from the company with a swappable battery is named Honda EM1 in the European market. It can have a maximum range of 48 km as per the launch in the European market but for the Indian market, it will come with different specs.

Suzuki e-Burgman

Recently, the company’s first electric scooter Suzuki e-Burgman is being tested in the Jonan area of Tokyo. The company is planning to launch it soon in the Indian markets as well. The Upcoming ELectric will use swappable battery technology. The e-Burgman’s Battery pack can be swapped at Honda Mobile Power Pack e: Stations. Company has claimed the e-Burgman has a range of “44km when ridden at a steady 60kph on a flat surface.”

Baaz Electric Scooter

A New Delhi-based electric scooter startup Baaz Bikes introduced its first electric scooter in India at 35,000/- without battery (ex-showroom price, Delhi) for gig delivery riders. Baaz Electric Scooters scooter is locally manufactured and comes with swappable batteries, an automated battery swapping network, and fleet management tools. The batteries will have safety features recommended by the AIS 156 standard. The batteries also have an IP 68 rating. The batteries are waterproof and shockproof in regular conditions.

CONCLUSION

This is a list of electric scooters with swappable batteries in India. Some of them are already available in the Indian market while some of the famous automobile companies are ready to enter the Indian market. in the current generation, Battery-swapping technology is looking as the only way to deal with the problem of range anxiety in electric scooters. It is expected that more companies will come up with this technology in the near future.
