Xiaomi Unveiled 2nd Electric Car YU7, Offers a Top Speed of 253 kmph

Share

XIAOMI SU7 & YU7 EVXiaomi has unveiled its first-ever electric SUV, the YU7, expanding its electric vehicle lineup. The YU7 follows the success of Xiaomi’s SU7 sedan, which launched in March 2024 and received a strong market response.

Aiming to capture a larger share of the premium EV market, Xiaomi plans to launch the YU7 by mid-2025, positioning it as a competitor to the Tesla Model Y.

Xiaomi YU7 Launch and Production Details

Xiaomi anticipates the YU7 SUV will debut in June or July 2025. The vehicle will be produced at Xiaomi’s Beijing Yizhuang factory, and its homologation filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) confirm its design and key features.

Design Similarities and Enhancements

The YU7’s design closely resembles the SU7 sedan, with some notable changes:

  • Front Profile: The YU7 shares features like LED headlamps and a similar bumper, but it also includes a larger air intake and a higher bonnet.
  • Side Profile: The SUV resembles the sedan but features a distinctive roofline and unique wheel design.
  • Rear Profile: LED taillights identical to the SU7.

Xiaomi YU7 Performance and Specifications

While detailed technical data is not yet available, Xiaomi has shared these key specifications:

  • Top Speed: 253 km/h.
  • Battery: Powered by a CATL-sourced battery pack.
  • Powertrain Details: Xiaomi has yet to disclose figures for power and torque.

According to filings by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV will measure 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. The vehicle’s kerb weight is listed at 2,405 kg, and it will feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain.

The dual-motor setup includes a 220 kW (295 bhp) front motor and a 288 kW (386 bhp) rear motor, delivering a combined output of 508 kW (681 bhp). This makes the YU7 more powerful than the SU7 Max, which offers 664 bhp. This enhanced performance underscores Xiaomi’s push to compete in the premium electric SUV market.

Building on the success of the SU7

After the remarkable success of its first EV, the SU7, Xiaomi is set to redefine the electric SUV market by combining luxury and affordability.

The SU7 sedan impressed customers and critics by offering a spacious interior comparable to the Tesla Model S while maintaining a price point closer to the Tesla Model 3.

Despite early production challenges, Xiaomi exceeded initial sales projections, achieving an estimated 130,000 units sold in its first year, setting a strong foundation for its next move into electric SUVs.
