Vietnamese EV maker VinFast has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of two electric SUVs—VF6 and VF7.
With sharp pricing, premium features, and ownership benefits like free charging and maintenance, VinFast is signalling its intent to challenge established players in India’s fast-growing EV space.
After spending time with both SUVs, our early impressions suggest they’re well-packaged, feature-rich, and competitively priced—though not without a few compromises.
VinFast is targeting a wide base of buyers with multiple trims:
| Model | Variant | Price (Ex-showroom) |
|---|---|---|
| VF6 | Earth | ₹16.49 lakh (Ex-showroom) |
| Wind | ₹17.79 lakh (Ex-showroom) | |
| Wind Infinity | ₹18.29 lakh (Ex-showroom) | |
| VF7 | Earth | ₹20.89 lakh (Ex-showroom) |
| Wind | ₹23.49 lakh (Ex-showroom) | |
| Wind Infinity | ₹23.99 lakh (Ex-showroom) | |
| Sky | ₹24.99 lakh (Ex-showroom) | |
| Sky Infinity | ₹25.49 lakh (Ex-showroom) |
Earth: ₹16.49 lakh
Wind: ₹17.79 lakh
Wind Infinity: ₹18.29 lakh
Earth: ₹20.89 lakh
Wind: ₹23.49 lakh
Wind Infinity: ₹23.99 lakh
Sky: ₹24.99 lakh
Sky Infinity: ₹25.49 lakh
The two SUVs cover nearly a ₹10 lakh price span, lining them up squarely against models like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, and BYD Atto 3.
Battery: 59.6 kWh
Claimed range: up to 468 km (MIDC)
Power: 175–201 hp, 250–310 Nm torque
Drivetrain: FWD
Battery options: 59.6 kWh (438 km) or 70.8 kWh (532 km)
Power: 175 hp / 201 hp (single motor), or 350 hp & 500 Nm (dual-motor AWD in Sky variant)
Range: 438–532 km
The standout is the VF7 Sky dual-motor AWD variant, which delivers a punchy 350 hp and 500 Nm. Even the entry-level trims of both SUVs offer competitive range figures and sufficient performance for city and highway use.
Both SUVs bring a premium, tech-laden feel.
ADAS: Level 2 driver-assistance, 360° cameras, fatigue detection (VF7 only)
Infotainment: 12.9-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, connected car tech
Comfort: Panoramic sunroof, multifunction steering wheel, climate control
Safety: Multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, traction and stability control
Inside the VF7, the 12.9-inch driver-oriented screen makes a strong first impression with crisp visuals.
That said, the user interface feels a little basic and lacks the smoothness of rival systems like Hyundai’s. Material quality is generally good, with soft-touch surfaces and dual-tone finishes in higher trims adding to the premium feel.
Rear seat comfort is adequate, though the raised floor (due to the battery pack) compromises under-thigh support.
The windows also feel smaller, which reduces the airy cabin feel compared to competitors.
Boot space is usable but somewhat narrow, limiting how wide luggage can be loaded.
The VF6 shares much of its interior design and features with the VF7, including the large infotainment display and ADAS suite. It misses out on the driver monitoring system, but otherwise feels premium for its price point.
VinFast has built a compelling ownership package around these SUVs:
Free charging nationwide until July 2028
Free maintenance for 3 years on both models
Warranty coverage:
VF6: 7 years / 1.6 lakh km
VF7: 10 years / 2 lakh km
24×7 roadside assistance covering 19,000+ pincodes
These benefits make the cars especially attractive for first-time EV buyers who are cautious about long-term costs.
Local manufacturing: Tamil Nadu plant with an initial 50,000-unit annual capacity, expandable to 150,000.
Network expansion: 35 dealerships in 27 cities by the end of 2025, plus 26 workshops.
Ecosystem partnerships: Collaborations with V-Green, RoadGrid, myTVS, Global Assure, and BatX Energies for charging and battery recycling.
VinFast is clearly betting big on India, but brand perception remains a challenge. The market already trusts homegrown and global names like Tata, Hyundai, and Mahindra.
The VF6 and VF7 tick most of the right boxes: they look modern, come packed with features, and deliver a respectable range at aggressive price points. The interiors feel premium, and ownership perks like free charging and maintenance sweeten the deal considerably.
Still, there are areas where rivals have the edge—infotainment smoothness, rear-seat comfort, and boot practicality.
Overall, the VF6 and VF7 represent a bold start for VinFast in India. For buyers who want an affordable yet premium EV experience, these SUVs are worth serious consideration.
VF6: Available in Earth, Wind, Wind Infinity variants. Features include a 12.9-inch touchscreen, HUD, 7 airbags, panoramic roof, Level 2 ADAS, and a 360° camera.
VF7: Offered in Earth, Wind, Wind Infinity, Sky, and Sky Infinity. Offers both FWD (single-motor) and AWD (dual-motor) options; high-tech features including advanced HUD, 12.9-inch infotainment, wireless charging, and more.
