Most EV conversations focus on speed, range, charging, or flashy product launches.
But Ather Energy chose a different route — quietly rolling out a feature that matters more in daily life: Pothole Detection & Alerts, part of its new AtherStack 7.0 update.
No hype, no theatrics. Just a subtle launch at Community Day 2025 — and it’s already winning riders’ hearts.
On Indian roads, where every bump counts, this kind of practical innovation feels like a true upgrade.
The feature was launched on 30 August 2025 during Ather Community Day 2025, with the unveiling of AtherStack 7.0, the company’s newest software/firmware update platform.
Ather’s Pothole Detection & Alerts system turns every scooter into a smart sensor on wheels.
By using onboard sensors and real-time mobility data gathered from lakhs of rides, the scooter can detect potholes, rough patches, and other irregularities on the road.
This data is then shared across the network, meaning if one rider detects a pothole, others riding in the same stretch later are warned.
Pothole Alerts are one of several safety and convenience features in AtherStack 7.0. Others include Crash Alerts, voice-enabled interactions, ParkSafe (parking zone alerts), LockSafe (remote lock/immobilisation), smoother route suggestions, etc.
Riders get alerts (voice + dashboard) about upcoming potholes or rough patches, enabling them to slow down or maneuver more safely. Crash Alerts are also included, notifying emergency contacts in severe accidents.
By suggesting smoother or less bumpy routes (even if they are not always the fastest), stress on the vehicle and the rider’s comfort improves. Vibrations, shocks, and bike damage are lessened.
The system uses data from hundreds of thousands of Ather scooters riding millions of kilometres to map road conditions. Such data could be immensely useful for municipalities and civic bodies trying to identify and repair problematic roads.
Alerts via voice (especially through Ather’s Halo smart helmet) mean less need to watch the road or the dash constantly. Also, safety features like Crash Alerts and remote capabilities (LockSafe, etc.) add security.
Ather’s Pothole Detection & Alerts feature isn’t just additive—it’s transformative for daily life on Indian roads.
Launched August 30, 2025, with the AtherStack 7.0 platform, available via OTA for Rizta Z and 450X Gen 3 (and likely expanding), it shows how innovation can be quietly powerful.
Every EV maker — two-wheeler or four-wheeler — should take note.
Because at the end of the day, the smoothest ride isn’t always the fastest, but the safest and most thoughtful.
