Toyota bZ3X Electric SUV Unveiled in China, Starting Price of Around 18Lakhs

The Toyota bZ3X, developed under the GAC-Toyota joint venture, is exclusively unveiled for the Chinese market. Recently revealed at the Guangzhou Auto Show, this electric SUV is an intriguing addition to Toyota’s bZ (Beyond Zero) lineup, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to zero-emission vehicles tailored for local preferences.

The bZ3X was also unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show a few months ago alongside the bZ3C, a fastback version of the sedan of the same name.

Derived from the GAC Aion V SUV, the bZ3X retains key design elements like the hard points and wheelbase. However, Toyota has made distinct changes to the front and rear, introducing a low nose and wide, razor-thin light units.

These design choices result in a unique appearance, setting it apart from its GAC Aion V counterpart while maintaining a familiar structural identity.

Inside, the bZ3X closely mirrors the GAC Aion V, with identical steering wheels and screens, except for subtle Toyota branding.

The center console, however, has been redesigned slightly for a more refined experience. Notable technological features include Huawei-sourced infotainment and a Level 2+ ADAS system developed with Momenta, equipped with lidar for enhanced autonomous driving capabilities. 

The bZ3X features a minimalist interior where most controls are integrated into a large infotainment touchscreen, reflecting the Chinese preference for uncluttered, digital-focused designs.

Toyota mentions it includes advanced driver assistance systems, though details about the specific level of assistance are yet to be confirmed.

Toyota bZ3X Dimensions and Performance

The bZ3X measures 4600 mm in length, 1850 mm in width, and 1660 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2775 mm and a curb weight of 1760 kg. The powertrain is detailed below:

The vehicle uses an LFP battery supplied by CALB, emphasizing durability and affordability, catering to China’s EV demand.

Toyota bZ3X Price, Launch, and Market Prospects

Set to launch in China soon, the Toyota bZ3X is expected to enter the market at a competitive starting price of around 150,000 yuan (~$21,000) around 18lakhs in INR. 

Positioned strategically, this SUV will aim to rival popular local electric vehicles while leveraging Toyota’s reputation for reliability.

Unfortunately, the Toyota bZ3X launch in India is likely and The Indian launch will take a lot of time. The Japanese brand is working on a mass-market battery electric that is based on the Urban SUV concept.
