The Tata Nexon EV dominated the electric four-wheeler market in India in 2023, capturing 73% of the market share. Nearly 59,580 units were sold, making it the best-selling electric car in the country.
The company offers its electric SUVs in two variants: Nexon EV Max and Nexon EV Prime. The Nexon EV Max provides a range of 437 km on a single charge and has a battery capacity of 40.5 kWh. The Nexon EV Prime offers a range of 312 km and has a battery capacity of 30.2 kWh.
The Tata Nexon EV uses Lithium ferrous phosphate (LFP) cells, which can handle thermal stress better than nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) cells.

The Nexon EV battery is made in India. It’s liquid-cooled using water and ethylene glycol to keep the cells cool. The battery pack can operate safely within a temperature range of 0°C to 50°C.
The Nexon EV has a battery warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first. If the battery pack fails within this period, Tata service centers will replace it for free under warranty.
A Nexon EV owner (named Doddappa S Nisty) shared on a Facebook post that replacing the battery pack after the warranty period is Rs. 7 lakhs, per details from a Tata service center.
The battery is sourced from Tata AutoComp Systems Limited, a joint venture with China’s Guoxuan Hi-Tech, to produce them locally.
According to this image shared by Doddappa, his Nexon EV’s battery pack failed at 68,000 km, and the Tata service center replaced it free of cost under the warranty.
