It has taken Suzuki quite a long time to enter the Indian electric two-wheeler segment but it is going to arrive soon next year with the launch of its first all-electric two-wheeler.
The brand is developing a number of electric vehicles for the Indian market, and the first electric launch will most likely be the electric version of its best-selling 125 cc two-wheeler, the Access Electric, or the e-Access, as it is anticipated to be known.
The Suzuki Access 125 scooter is a huge success in the market and the brand is hoping to make use of its strong brand recognition to enter the electric scooter segment.
Rumour has it that Suzuki intends to introduce the Access Electric around the third quarter of 2025.
The Access Electric two-wheeler has been co-developed internationally with Suzuki engineers in Japan. Suzuki had previously been testing the electric iteration of Burgman Street for the Indian market.
However, it is anticipated that Access Electric will debut first, followed by Burgman Electric.
Both these electric two-wheelers are expected to be based on the same platform, just like their petrol versions. Therefore, the time between their launch dates would not be too long. read more – Top 10 Upcoming Electric Scooters in India by 2025.
Suzuki Access Electric is expected to be launched in India in September 2025 at an expected price of Rs 1 to Rs. 1.20 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
As of now, detailed specifications about the motor, battery, and range are not available. However, it is anticipated that the performance of Access Electric would be similar to its 125CC ICE sibling and on par with segment standards.
Whilst the specifications are still under wraps, it is speculated that it could be available with multiple battery pack options, offering impressive range and fast charging capabilities. It is expected to offer a range of around 120 kms on a full charge.
The Suzuki Access Electric is likely to feature a retro design similar to its ICE version in regards to its stylishness. In this case, the overall body components and looks can be expected to stand out amongst the industry rivals.
The Access 125, the petrol-powered version of the scooter, is equipped with a plethora of features and modern technology amenities.
Features include a one-push engine start and stop switch, ample storage capacity, a spacious seat for comfortable riding, an LED headlamp, a side stand interlock system for added safety, and an external fuel filling feature for added convenience.
In order to distinguish itself and stand out in a highly competitive market, Suzuki is likely to retain all of these existing features of the Access 125 as well as introduce new advancements and equip the Access Electric with even more tech and premium features.
Additionally, standard amenities such as a USB charging port and a digital instrument cluster are most likely to feature in the Suzuki e-Access as well.
Upon launch, the Suzuki Access EV will compete with rivals such as the TVS iQube, Ola Electric S1, Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak Electric, and the Honda Activa Electric, which is another most awaited electric scooter in the country.
Despite the advancement of the Indian Electric 2W market over the past few years, legacy players have been quite behind in launching their range of electric vehicles.
The electric two-wheeler market in India is currently being dominated by EV startups and the entry of the legacy players like Suzuki and Honda in this segment is the need of the hour.
Suzuki has not revealed any specific timeframe for the launch of Access Electric, but it is likely to announce more developments with the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 approaching soon.
With the launch of these electric scooters, Suzuki aims to offer consumers competitive performance and range.
The brand is continuing to make efforts to create a range of electric two-wheelers to meet consumers’ diversified needs and promote the faster adoption of electric vehicles.
