Musashi Auto Parts India Pvt Ltd (Musashi), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Musashi Seimitsu Industries, Japan, has announced the initiation of mass production of electric vehicle (EV) two-wheeler e-axles. The production takes place at Musashi India’s facility in Bangalore, with a line-off ceremony held on 5 June marking the start of this new venture.

Naoya Nishimura, CEO of Musashi for the India and Africa regions, mentioned

‘Our production lines are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, ensuring seamless integration across the assembly line, leading to increased efficiencies and production output. At Musashi, our goal is to contribute to this ecosystem’s growth by combining our manufacturing legacy and expertise with our R&D capabilities to deliver cutting-edge, high-performance EV drive units to the burgeoning EV industry in India.

Production Capacity Expansion

The capacity is projected to increase with the addition of new production lines starting from the third year onwards. In the first phase, Muasashi has set up the capacity to produce 10,000  e-axles per month.  Designed as a compatible drive unit for seamless integration into EV two-wheelers, these e-axles are compact, lightweight, and quiet, aiming to enhance performance, range, and overall riding experience for users.

About Musashi Seimitsu and its Investment Plans

Musashi Seimitsu, a Japanese company, entered the Indian EV market in September 2023 through a joint venture with Delta Electronics, Inc. and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, forming Musashi Delta e-Axle India Private Limited. Holding a 51% stake in the venture, Musashi has established a facility in Bangalore to produce and distribute e-axles for two-wheeler EVs in India, Africa, and ASEAN markets. With an investment of INR 160 crore for Phase I, Musashi plans to build new assembly lines for EV transmission components and upgrade existing facilities, aiming for significant localization by the end of the current fiscal year.

The company is also actively collaborating with BNC Motors to develop EV drive units for BNC’s upcoming electric two-wheeler.
