India’s electric four-wheeler (E4W) segment surged in July 2025, hitting an all-time high in monthly sales and accelerating its year-to-date growth with sharper momentum and increased consumer interest.
The competition intensified further among major OEMs, especially between Tata Motors, MG Motor India, and Mahindra & Mahindra, as each brand pushed forward with aggressive portfolios and fresh product offerings, as we have seen in recent times.
According to data from the Vahan Dashboard (A government portal), electric car retail sales stood at 15,423 units in July 2025, a record monthly high and a YoY growth of 93% compared to July 2024.
Month-over-month (MoM) growth stood at 10.9%, rising from 13,902 units in June 2025.
While overall momentum remains strong, some OEMs outpaced others, leading to noticeable shifts in rankings and market share.
Tata Motors maintained its lead in July 2025, followed closely by MG Motor India and a strong Mahindra & Mahindra, which continues to gain ground with its electric SUV lineup.
Tata Motors topped the chart with 6,019 units, while MG Motor India came in second with 5,291 units. Mahindra held third with 3,810 units, and Hyundai and BYD India rounded out the top five with 610 and 252 units, respectively.
Among luxury OEMs, BMW India again led the segment with 324 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 95 units, and Volvo Auto India with 24 units.
The top three Electric car companies in India are—Tata Motors, MG Motor India, and Mahindra & Mahindra, which accounted for a commanding 96% of the total E4W market share in July 2025.
While Tata Motors retained the lead, MG and Mahindra are now competing neck and neck in the fastest-evolving EV Industry, where market share is more evenly distributed.

Tata Motors led the market in July with 6,019 units, up sharply from 4,946 in June, marking 21.7% MoM growth.
Compared to July 2024, the company saw an 18% increase from 5,094 units.
Its key models—the Nexon EV, Tiago EV, and the newly launched Harrier EV—are driving volumes, although competition is now tougher than ever. Tata’s market share for the month stood at 39%.
MG Motor India continued its aggressive climb, reporting 5,291 units in July 2025.
This reflected a 4.5% MoM rise from 5,061 units in June, and a 212% YoY jump, up from 1,695 units in July 2024.
The MG ZS EV, Comet EV, and the recently launched Windsor and M9 MPV contributed to its 34% market share, further narrowing the gap with Tata.
Mahindra recorded another stellar month, selling 3,810 units in July — a 19.2% MoM increase over June’s 3,196.
With a 393% YoY growth, the company remains a strong contender in the SUV-led EV segment, driven by high demand for the XUV400, BE 6, and XEV 9e.
Mahindra held a 25% market share, continuing to challenge the duopoly of Tata and MG.
Hyundai registered 610 units in July, growing 12.5% MoM from 542 units in June.
Its YoY growth stood at 570%, driven primarily by the Creta Electric and Ioniq 5. With a 4% market share, Hyundai is cementing its position as a rising force in the e-SUV category.
BYD saw a decline in July with 252 units, down 48.8% from June’s 492.
It also posted a 21% YoY drop from 320 units in July 2024, possibly due to demand fluctuations and product cycle transitions.
Still, BYD holds a steady position in the premium mid-size segment.
BMW led the premium segment with 324 units, a 66.2% MoM growth and a 136% YoY increase.
Mercedes-Benz followed with 95 units, and Volvo reported 24 units, up marginally from June. Audi, JLR, and Porsche remained in low single digits.
The luxury EV space continues to expand steadily, maintaining a 3% share of the total E4W market.
July 2025 marked a breakout month for India’s electric four-wheeler segment with a new monthly sales record and intense competition among top players.
Tata Motors remains on top but faces mounting pressure from MG and Mahindra, both of which are growing rapidly in volume and market share.
Together, MG and Mahindra now contribute over 50% of non-Tata volumes, with Tata’s share at 39%, down from over 60% a year ago.
As new product launches ramp up in H2 2025 and supply chain risks emerge, the E4W space will remain one of the most dynamic segments in Indian mobility.
