10,000 EVs to be delivered to BluSmart Electric by Tata Motors

Signing an agreement to deliver 10,000 XPRES-T Electric Vehicles to BluSmart Electric, Tata Motors claims this to be the biggest ever Electric Vehicle fleet order in the country. This order is in addition to the one signed in October, 2021 for 3,500 XPRES-T EVs. This deal, signed off on World Environment Day, would mark the largest ever deployment of EVs in the nation. They will be used by travelers all around the country, helping to reduce carbon emissions.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., expressed the company’s delight in continuing their association with BluSmart Electric.

“Tata Motors is constantly working towards educating and enhancing the adoption of electric mobility in India and we hope that more people join us in this journey as we mobilize the nation to #EvolveToElectric,” he further commented.

“Tata Motors is taking active steps towards the rapid electrification of mobility, and it is heartening to see renowned fleet aggregators joining the green mobility wave with us,” Chandra noted.

The company is “supercharged” about the expansion across Delhi-NCR and other metro cities, with the grace of its $50-million Series A fundraise, according to Anmol Singh Jaggi, the co-founder of BluSmart Electric Mobility.

“BluSmart Electric Mobility has covered 50 million clean kms and delivered over 1.6 million zero-emission rides with an elevated customer experience on its platform. We are building a large-scale integrated EV mobility ecosystem in India – from the country’s largest fully-electric ride-hailing service to the largest network of EV charging super hubs,” he stated.

XPRES-T Specifications

Launched in July 2021, the XPRES-T by Tata Motors exclusively for fleet customers, the electric sedan comes with two battery and range options, 21.5 kWh and 16.5 kWh, and 213 km and 165 km, respectively. Using fast chargers or any 15A plug point, these can be charged 0-80% in 90 (21.5 kWh) minutes or 110 (16.5 kWh) minutes. With a power of 30 kWh, it comes with Power Steering, Cruise Control, Anti-lock Braking System, and more features.

In Fiscal Year 2022, Tata Motors commanded a share of 87 percent of the Indian e-mobility space, with more than 25,000 EVs on road till date. Furthermore, the company also mentioned its plansbout investing Rs. 15,000 Crores in the Electric Vehicle segment over the next five years, in electrification.

“We are going to work on nearly 10 products with different body styles, price, driving range options,” Chandra said. Already a leader in the newly-emergent EV segment with an assortment of options like Nexon, the company plans on expanding with around ten new offerings in the segment. 

The company currently offers three choices in the domestic sphere: Tigor EV, Nexon EV, and XPRES-T. Along with that, the company recently announced the development of a coupe style SUV which is expected to be launched in the next two years. 

In the previous two months, the Mumbai-based manufacturer, which led the passenger EV category in the domestic market last fiscal year, has received an average of 5,500-6,000 bookings for its EV line. Tata Motors announced earlier this year that it intends to increase electric vehicle production as demand continues to outstrip supply by a large margin.
