ASHOK LEYLAND LTD
The company with the motto “Aapki jeet. Hamari jeet” means your victory equals ours, has been in the market with a strong foothold for 75 years and has now started to fix its foot in the electric bus market too. On August 19, the Cabinet minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated India’s 1st AC Double-Decker Electric bus, EiV 22, in Mumbai. Its body is built by Antony auto coach builders (Panvel) and its chassis by Switch Mobility (Ashok Leyland, Chennai). This massive beast can travel up to 200-250 kilometres on a single charge and takes up to 2-3 hours to fully charge.
It has a massively powerful battery of 231KWH with 320HP and can generate torque of 3100NM. It has room for 65 people to sit and about 20 people to stand. its front disc and rear drum brakes. One of the most important updates is that Ashok Leyland is working on the world’s fastest electric bus charging technology, which can charge a bus in 20s approx. The company has got an order of 200 such buses for Mumbai itself. The designer created this bus in just 40 days, which is quite interesting.

JBM Auto Ltd, the flagship company of the $2.2 billion JBM Group, specializes in the manufacturing of key auto systems and assemblies, buses and electric vehicles. It has been the first to provide its electric bus facilities, which will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of New Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, himself.
This powerful vehicle has power steering, fog lights, tubeless tyres, front and rear independent air suspension, and a 14+D seating arrangement, but it can only hold about 30 people. The 22.5″ wide tyres have a strong grip on the road. It is also possible to add EBS and an anti-braking system to this vehicle. It is a totally air-conditioned bus with front and back doors. Its price has not been disclosed, but the company said it will be one of the most affordable buses available in our country.

SOLARIES BUS & COACHES
Solaris bus & coaches has been manufacturing vehicles for 25 years and has been Europe’s leading transport bus manufacturer, selling over 20,000+ of its products till now in its electric segment. In India currently, they have partnered with JBM auto and are working in a joint venture under the name of JBM Solaris Electric Vehicles Ltd. They are planning to launch a massive, powerful premium electric bus which will cost around 2-3 crore.
Solange and Krzysztof Olszewski founded Solaris Bus and Coach in 1996, and the company now operates in over 30 countries. As per the company’s CEO, their vehicle can run upto 150-200 km on a single charge or upto 15 to 16 hrs in a heavy traffic conditions. The vehicle has the latest monitoring system, GPS, cyber security equipment, etc. The manufacturing plants will be held at two places in India; Faridabad (Haryana) and Kosi (UP), with the capacity of manufacturing 2000 units annually.
OLECTRA GREENTECH LTD
Olectra Greentech Ltd. is a subsidiary of MEIL Group, which is India’s largest pure electric bus manufacturer, having manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad, India. Until now, this company has a variety of models ranging from the 7m bus size to the 12m bus size. The buses they built have powerful disc brakes, a monocoque chassis, a regenerative braking system, and powerful front and rear suspension. And on a single charge, you can go up to a very long range of 150+ km (range varies from model to model and battery). They use lithium ion phosphate batteries, which is a very innovative and powerful tool.

DECCAN AUTO LTD
One of India’s leading luxury electric bus manufacturers is setting up its new eco-friendly manufacturing unit at 130 acres in Patancheru, near Hyderabad, with a facility of 3000 units of manufacturing capacity. As per the company’s leaders, we are not using real bus experience in our country. They will provide us with the best bus experience we ever had. As per them, the real bus means using the engine made especially for buses, not just a normal electric engine, and using the chassis made for buses, not the heavy loader vehicle chassis of their standard size. The starting models will be of 8m, 10.5m, 12m, and 13.5m size, and for the technology, the company has made deals with three Chinese companies who have further deals with European giants.
In terms of luxury, it has a chemical toilet, spacious 2+2 seats, 2+2 configuration channels, an individual screen with multiple channels, and a small kitchen where they can store and prepare refreshment drinks, allowing them to attract a diverse range of buyers. The price range could be between 40 lakhs and 2 crores. Rest of the details, such as tyres and range on a single charge, are yet to be revealed by the company, but according to some internal sources, they will use the latest high-range providing battery with high heat tolerance, primarily using radial tyres, and so on.
BYD COMPANY LTD
BYD (Build Your Dream) is a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturing giant with the highest number of EVs sold till now, which is backed by Warren Buffet himself, and has been in the Indian market since 2014 approx., and has captured a good market in the four-wheeler car segment. Now they are building their footprint to make a mark in the EV bus area with their models like the BYD K9 with their Indian partner Olectra. which has a high speed range of 90+ km/h, a range of up to 150km or more, and uses lithium ion phosphate technology, which will generate more power but can tolerate very high and low temperatures. This vehicle can take 31+ drivers in seating and a total of 50 approx. This vehicle will take around 6 to 7 hours approx. to charge. It has LED screens, CCTV cams, and other features that can be priced up to 50 lakhs approx. for a minimum range.
EICHER MOTORS LTD
Eicher Motors, a subsidiary of Eicher group, has been in transport vehicle manufacture for a long time and for a few years they have been working on their EV’s. They have been working in West Bengal with 100% electric in their bus segment and have worked with West Bengal Infrastructure Development Corporation. They had data of 1.6 lakhs km and 1.5 lakhs approx customer feedback with their model SKYLINE PRO E BUSES with Revolo technology in their engine, which allows this vehicle to go a long way with a heavy load of people. The bus can take up to 40 to 60 people, seating and standing, with a maximum torque of 400 NM and 90 hp.
ZHONGTONG BUS AND HOLDING COMPANY LTD.
Zhongtong Bus and Holding Ltd is a China-based bus manufacturer who makes luxury EV buses and has entered India’s EV bus industry. They collaborated with Deccan Auto, an Indian EV manufacturer located in Hyderabad, and became partners. Now both companies share their resources with each other and work to capture the maximum share of the huge billion dollar market.
