Last month, Tata Motors introduced the Punch EV in India, equipping the micro electric SUV with advanced features and technology. Notably, the Punch EV matches the range of the Nexon EV, attributed to its innovative Acti.ev platform.

Tata Motors has confirmed the potential upgrade of the Nexon EV to the Acti.ev platform shortly, making this development an intriguing prospect.

Let’s delve deeper into this noteworthy update:

The Acti.ev advantage

Tata Motors is stepping up its electric car game with the Punch EV, thanks to the smart Acti.ev platform.

This innovative platform, distinguished by its unique features, notably excels in achieving a higher range, providing a significant advantage witnessed in both the Nexon and Punch EVs. Departing from traditional ICE-based platforms utilized in previous Tata EVs, the Acti.ev platform’s second-generation design is tailor-made for superior battery management, further contributing to the commendable range of these electric vehicles.

Strategic Outlook: The Nexon EV’s Potential Shift

Tata Motors is strategically considering the Nexon EV’s transition to the Acti.ev platform. Anand Kulkarni, Vice President of Tata Passenger, confirms the viability of this shift, hinting at substantial improvements.

The Acti.ev platform’s adaptability, accommodating vehicles up to 4.6 meters in length, not only facilitates Nexon EV’s evolution but also sets the stage for upcoming electric models like the Harrier EV, Curvv EV, and Sierra EV.

This platform shift promises not just improved range and spatial efficiency but also suggests a more robust and expansive next generation of the Nexon EV.

Battery and Platform Updates: The Next-Gen Nexon EV

The upcoming generation of the Nexon EV is set to retain its current features, with the primary changes focused on a new battery pack and platform. Despite these updates, the rest of the car remains unchanged for now.

The recent facelift implemented a few months ago, introduced significant design alterations both inside and outside the vehicle. Notably, the Nexon EV boasts a premium-looking cabin featuring a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, touch panels for AC controls, and various other advanced elements. The potential addition of frunk storage is also under consideration in the New Gen Nexon EV.

Testing and Future Launch Plans for Nexon EV

While transitioning the Nexon EV to the new platform may seem straightforward, extensive testing is imperative for Tata to ensure a smooth integration. The brand, having recently revamped the model with a major facelift, is now gearing up for more innovations.

Tata Motors is not only working on the Nexon EV but has also planned the launch of the Curvv EV and Harrier EV, both set to debut this year. Given these developments, the new generation Nexon EV is anticipated to hit the market either by late 2025 or early 2026, aligning with Tata’s commitment to advancing its electric vehicle portfolio.
