With over 15,000 units sold and consistent monthly sales of around 3,000 units, this crossover-styled electric hatchback has not only solidified MG’s position in the EV segment but also played a crucial role in the brand’s overall growth.

The MG Windsor EV, launched in September 2024, has quickly risen to prominence as India’s top-selling electric vehicle, with sales figures reaching 3,785 units in December 2024 alone, totaling over 10,000 units in its first three months.

In March 2025, MG Motor India secured the second spot with 3,889 units sold, showing an impressive 232% YoY growth from March 2024.

Why has it become India’s best-selling electric car?

Affordable Pricing with Battery as a Service (BAAS)

The BAAS program is a game-changer, offering the electric car at an introductory price of Rs 9.99 lakh, excluding the battery, which is rented at Rs 3.5 per kilometer. This model reduces the upfront cost by Rs 3.5 lakh compared to traditional pricing, making it more accessible.

The BAAS option, with a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner and an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty for subsequent owners, also addresses concerns about battery degradation, a common worry for EV buyers.

This approach has been praised for its affordability, especially in a market where competitors like Tata Nexon EV start at around Rs 14.5 lakh.

Feature Details
Starting Price (BAAS) Rs 9.99 lakh + Rs 3.5/km battery rental
Battery Warranty (First Owner) Lifetime, unlimited km
Battery Warranty (Subsequent Owners) 8 years or 160,000 km, pro rata basis

Spacious and Practical Indian Design

The MG Windsor EV‘s design as a CUV combines the utility of an MPV with the aesthetics of an SUV, measuring 4,295 mm in length, 2,126 mm in width, and 1,677 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm and a ground clearance of 186 mm.

This translates to a spacious interior, with a 604-liter boot space, ideal for family use.

The Infinity View Glass Roof and Aerolounge seats, offering 135° recline, enhance comfort, making it suitable for long drives.

Its dimensions and space management are commendable, providing ample legroom and headroom for front and rear passengers, ensuring a relaxed driving experience.
