Montra Electric, the clean mobility brand of the Murugappa Group, has unveiled its state-of-the-art electric heavy commercial vehicle (eHCV) manufacturing plant in Manesar, Haryana.
The facility marks a significant step in India’s shift toward sustainable freight and is set to play a key role in strengthening the company’s presence in the commercial EV segment.
One of the standout features of the Manesar plant is India’s first all-women, fully automated battery production unit—a move that underscores Montra Electric’s commitment to gender inclusivity and empowerment in the EV industry.
Spread over 255,000 sq. ft. with a built-up area of 150,000 sq. ft., the facility is designed to produce 6,000 trucks annually, scalable to 7,500 units with additional shifts. It will house flexible production lines capable of rolling out multiple models, including the Rhino EV series.
The plant boasts 60% robotics integration and full Industry 4.0 practices, along with advanced automation using Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) integrated into conveyor lines.
It will also feature in-house battery assembly capacity of 1.7 GWh, alongside extensive testing infrastructure—ranging from battery cyclers and QA labs to brake and roll testers, wheel alignment systems, and even shower testing facilities.
In line with Murugappa Group’s sustainability focus, the plant incorporates battery recycling, waste management systems, and EV charging infrastructure. Future expansion phases will add renewable energy solutions.
Montra Electric has also emphasized localization, with 74% of components sourced domestically, apart from imported battery cells. Beyond manufacturing, the company plans to run community engagement programs through skill development initiatives and environmental campaigns like tree plantations.
Commenting on the launch, P.V. Satyanarayana, Chief Business Officer of Montra Electric HCV (IPL Tech), said:
“The inauguration of our EV truck factory in Manesar marks a defining step in India’s transition to sustainable logistics. With our all-women battery line, high localization, and digital-first production approach, we are setting new benchmarks for green mobility and inclusive employment.”
Montra Electric intends to apply for benefits under the PM E-Drive Scheme while also exploring state-level incentives to support its growth.
With this facility, the company aims not only to scale up production but also to position Manesar as a hub for next-generation electric freight solutions in India.
