Based on the Honda Elevate platform, this EV will debut under a new name and design, showcasing Honda’s ambitious approach to the Indian electric vehicle market.
This move marks a critical step in Honda’s broader strategy to increase its electrified vehicle lineup globally.
Honda’s Three New Electric Cars Models by 2026-27
Honda is gearing up to introduce three electrified vehicles between 2026 and 2027.
These include the Elevate-based battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and two additional models, which will be either hybrids or full-electric vehicles.
According to Honda Cars India President and CEO Takuya Tsumura, these launches align with the company’s global policy to boost the presence of electrified vehicles.
The upcoming Asian Compact Electric (ACE) project, developed from the Elevate platform, is expected to play a key role in Honda’s strategy, with 50-70% of its production earmarked for exports to markets like Japan.
Competition in the Mid-Size Electric SUV Market
By 2026, Honda will face stiff competition from established and emerging players in India’s EV market. Brands like Tata Motors, MG, and Mahindra have already secured a significant lead, while Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, and Toyota are set to launch mid-size electric SUVs in 2025.
Honda’s entry into this space underscores the brand’s need to accelerate its electrification efforts and carve out a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving segment.
Honda’s Dual Approach
