Tesla Model Y
Tesla has done it again! The US-based electric vehicle manufacturer has released yet another version of its highly popular Model Y electric crossover. The current version is more affordable, however, there is a condition that comes with it.
Lower Range and 4680 Battery Cells
The latest addition to the Model Y lineup promises a lower range on a single charge, with the automaker’s cutting-edge 4680 battery cells under the hood. At a price of $49,990, the cheapest Tesla Model Y variant offers a range of 450 km on a single charge, which is lesser compared to the Long Range and Performance variants. However, it comes with a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain, unlike the cheapest Tesla Model 3.
What is Dual-motor AWD
The Dual-motor AWD system employs two motors mounted on a single vehicle chassis, with one motor placed at the front and the other at the rear, in order to enable all-wheel drive. The motor located at the front propels the front wheels, whereas the motor located at the back propels the rear wheels, resulting in an unmatched level of acceleration.

Will it qualify for the EV Tax Credit?
One thing that’s still up in the air is whether the new Model Y variant will qualify for the EV tax credit, as Tesla has not yet revealed any information regarding this matter. Despite that, the cost mentioned on the Model Y’s label remains under the threshold set by the recently updated US federal EV tax credit program, potentially making it qualified for the complete tax credit of $7,500.
The Bestselling Electric Vehicles Worldwide
There is no denying that the Tesla Model Y electric crossover is already one of the bestselling electric vehicles worldwide, next to its other car, the Model 3. The new cheaper version of the Model Y is now available on Tesla’s official website for all US buyers, making it the cheapest option in the Model Y lineup to date.
Tesla’s constant innovation and affordability are bringing electric vehicles closer to the masses. With the release of this cheaper variant, Tesla continues to disrupt the automotive industry, making EVs more accessible to everyday consumers.
Writer’s remark
The race towards a sustainable future seems to have just gotten more exciting with Tesla’s latest offering. This shows the company’s vision to include fewer income groups in the Tesla family.
