Switch Mobility is an Indian subsidiary of Ashok Leyland. It is headquartered in New Yorkshire and they master the production of buses. Switch Mobility Ltd. is on the road to achieving zero carbon neutrality by producing electric buses and light commercial vehicles for corporations.
To achieve this road, the company has announced today a new partnership with the Indian multinational steel producer JSW steel for the production of Electric buses for easy employee transportation. This announcement is the biggest achievement in the country made for the service class.
About the Deal
The new partnership plans to operate 71 buses which will be delivered to JSW steel for their Vijayanagar plant. On the other hand, Switch Mobility will look after the setting-up of charging infrastructure for these buses and they will take care of the maintenance part. This all will be done over a period of 12 years.
Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of the JSW Group of Companies, and Mahesh Babu, Global CEO of Switch Mobility Ltd., signaled the start of the first fleet of electric buses.

- The air-conditioned buses include the SWITCH EiV 12, a modern and futuristic solution with customer-centric offerings in technology and employee comfort. SWITCH EiV 12 has world-class digital battery management tools coupled with patented, connected technology solutions, called “SWITCH iON,” that provide remote, real-time diagnostics and monitoring services. The European SWITCH e1 bus and the EiV platform share a similar EV architecture.
- The buses also use a brand-new generation of extremely effective, modular batteries with cutting-edge lithium-ion NMC chemistry that was specially developed for the Indian market and climate. The electric drivetrains and batteries are tuned to deliver the lowest total cost of ownership on the market while ensuring superior efficiency and long battery life.
What is the next move of Switch Mobility?
In keeping with its growth objectives to increase its staff by 30% over the next five years, SWITCH is growing its team and hiring 200 individuals to ensure effective operations and services of these electric buses.
