The bZ7 is a sleek electric sedan that reflects Toyota’s updated design language.

It features slim LED headlights and a light bar across the front, reminiscent of the recent Prius models. With its extended, aerodynamic silhouette, the bZ7 builds on the Comfortable Space Concept previously showcased in the same venue.

Toyota plans to launch the model next year, leveraging its joint venture with GAC Toyota for production.

Project 630D: The Foundation of the bZ7

Internally, Toyota’s latest electric sedan is referred to as Project 630D.

In May, the GAC Group approved a proposal to move forward with this project, allocating an investment of 1.588 billion yuan (approximately 218 million USD).

Earlier plans indicated that GAC Toyota aimed to introduce an all-electric medium-to-large sedan, initially codenamed Comfortable Space, within the same year.

It is now believed that Project 630D, Comfortable Space, and the bZ7 concept all refer to the same vehicle, reflecting Toyota’s focused strategy for the EV market.

Expanding Toyota’s Electric Lineup in China

While Toyota has just one global all-electric model, the bZ4X, it rapidly broadens its range in China. The bZ7 will join the bZ4X and bZ3X models GAC Toyota offers.

Meanwhile, Toyota’s other Chinese partner, FAW Toyota, handles the bZ3 and will soon launch the bZ3C. With an eye on the competitive Chinese EV market, Toyota is positioning the bZ7 as a rival to top-selling models like the BYD Han and Xiaomi SU7.

Partnership with BYD for Technology

The bZ7 is expected to utilize BYD’s Blade batteries and electric motors, much like the bZ3 sedan.

The bZ3 offers two battery options, a 49.9 kWh or 65.3 kWh pack, delivering up to 616 km of CLTC range.

BYD’s expertise in battery and motor technology highlights Toyota’s strategic reliance on its partner for advanced EV components.

This collaboration ensures competitive specifications while allowing Toyota to focus on design and overall vehicle engineering.
