The Lotus Evija 2022  (pronounced eh-VIE’-ya) aims to push modern hypercar technology to its limits. While many competitors offer hybrid powertrains, this model commits to being entirely electric and includes an ultrafast charging system.

Its exterior design is inspired by sports cars designed to dominate the track.

Butterfly doors and a large rear wing are among the sheet metal elements on the car. The best part, however, is what this car offers thanks to its four electric motors:

Lotus claims that the Evija has nearly 2000 horsepower, making it the world’s most powerful production car.  Only 130 of these cutting-edge hypercars will be built, each costing more than $2 million.

Although US buyers won’t be able to test drive the upcoming Lotus Evija 2022 Electric Car on the road, the concept of a 1972-hp all-wheel-drive pure-electric hypercar from a company best known for lightweight sports cars remains enthralling.

Lotus Evija 2022 Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The Evija’s muscle-bound electric powertrain is the star of the show. A team of four electric motors provide power, with Lotus claiming a total output of 1972 horsepower and 1254 lb-ft of torque. That’s nearly double the power of more expensive hypercars like the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

All of this is controlled by a single-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. The car’s light curb weight is intended to improve handling.

The Evija, according to the company, weighs just over 3700 pounds, making it the lightest EV hypercar ever produced. The Evija has a top speed of more than 200 mph and is capable of sprinting to 62 mph in under three seconds, according to Lotus. The performance of the car can be tailored using five driving modes: Range, City, Tour, Sport, and Track.

While the prototype had a detuned electric powertrain and lacked some of the car’s coolest features, such as active aerodynamics and torque vectoring across its axles, it still produced just over 1600 horsepower and demonstrated its brutal acceleration.

2022 Lotus Evija  Battery, Range, and Charging

Typically, you must wait several minutes or hours for the battery to charge in a Life EV. The Evija is unique. It’s outfitted with technology that makes charging the battery almost as quick as filling up at the gas station.

An 80 percent charge takes only 12 minutes, and a full charge takes only 18 minutes. This Lotus hypercar can travel up to 250 miles on a single charge.

Cargo, Interior, and Comfort

The Lotus Evija seats two people and has a cabin that is accessed through a pair of dihedral doors. To preserve the car’s clean, sculptural aesthetic, these doors lack handles and are operated by the key fob.

After entering the vehicle, the doors can be closed using a switch on the overhead console. The Evija’s electrically adjustable front seats have a carbon-fiber shell and thick microfiber pads.

The driver can manually adjust the steering column’s tilt and length, and there are two bespoke storage spaces located near the occupants’ hip points. Climate control and three-point seatbelts are standard interior features, with four-point harnesses available as an option.

Overall, the cabin of the Evija has a look that is both retro and modern. Certain design elements, according to Lotus, were inspired by the company’s racing cars from the 1950s and 1960s.

Connectivity and Infotainment

Bluetooth connectivity and an infotainment system are standard features on all Evija hypercars. A digital display in front of the steering wheel provides the driver with important information such as battery charge and remaining range. This is the only screen in the vehicle.

The Evija is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Lotus has included an onboard modem to facilitate cloud connectivity. There is a smartphone app that allows drivers to monitor the Evija from any location, checking things like battery charge status and driving range.

Driver-Assistance and Safety Features

With driver-assistance technology becoming more common on modern high-performance vehicles, we expect Lotus to provide some assistance on the Evija. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for more information on the Evija’s crash-test results.
