Honda’s first electric scooter is likely to be launched in India by 2023, which will take on Ola S1, Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, and Bounce Infinity E1.
HMSI President Atsushi Ogata has confirmed to ET Auto that the company will have its first EV ready for India by the next financial year. It is not known whether Honda will develop an entirely new EV product for India or use a modified version of any of its existing electric two-wheelers currently available in the international markets.

The Honda Activa is the best-selling scooter in the country and the best-selling product in Honda’s India portfolio. The company will get the benefit of using the same nameplate to launch its first electric scooter in India and gain the trust of the customers.
The Honda Activa electric scooter is likely to be offered with a swappable battery. Companies will use standard proprietary plans as well as subscription-based plans such as BaaS (Battery as a Service) to reduce the initial cost of EVs.
In the next few years, India’s top two-wheeler market leaders like Hero MotoCorp, Suzuki, Yamaha, KTM, and Husqvarna can see a number of EV products from these companies. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) may also launch its first electric two-wheeler in India.
