Globally renowned battery manufacturer, CATL and the Vietnamese EV Automaker Vinfast announced the signing of the MOA to expand their existing supply agreement. The businesses will investigate CIIC (CATL integrated intelligent chassis) skateboard platforms for EVs and “other areas” related to EV and battery technologies with this new “strategic partnership.”
The founder Dr. Robin Zeng, the Chairman of CATL, and Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, Chairman of Vingroup and Vinfast. In the agreement, CATL and Vinfast intended to look into several forms of the CIIC skateboard chassis, specifically, the two companies decided onto promoting battery innovation and e-mobility transition, which will provide Vinfast a rapid start in the global market.
Vinfast clearly said in one of their statements;
“CATL and VinFast intend to explore various forms of cooperation on CIIC skateboard chassis on top of the current cooperation on battery supply with CTP (cell-to-pack) technology between the two companies, which will provide VinFast rapid access to the global market.”
The CIIC skateboard chassis merges battery cells, electric vehicles, and other vital components into a single layer at the bottom of the car, reducing the cost and consumption of energy while increasing interior space.
Le Thi Thu Thuy, Vingroup Vice Chairwoman, and VinFast Global CEO said that this MOU was a very crucial step for her company and it was one of the most important events to strategically partner with CATL.
“Collaboration with CATL – a global leader of new energy innovative technologies – is the next development milestone of VinFast in applying advanced technology to enhance driving range and experience while offering competitive pricing for future models,” she said.
VinFast’s avant-garde EVs will achieve new heights in terms of range, safety, and intelligent driving by utilizing CATL’s cutting-edge batteries. The collaboration will also allow CATL to expand its global reach, particularly in developing regions, and encourage the use of new EV technologies.
The Memorandum of Understanding permits both parties to encourage and promote innovation of battery technology and global e-mobility providing a helping hand to achieve carbon neutrality through the energy transition.
