Toyota AE86 Generation Car Converted into an Electric car & a Hydrogen car
The Japanese carmaker, Toyota showcased two automobiles from the AE86 generation, one which will be converted as an electric battery vehicle and the other one as a hydrogen engine model at an industry exhibition for customized cars in China, east of Tokyo.
Toyota Motor showcased these zero-emission versions of its 1980s sports range on Friday in an eye-catching effort to demonstrate that vehicles can be clean while still appealing to old-school petrol heads. The range still has a substantial global following.
Background
Toyota is relatively a newcomer to the mass EV market and intends to invest $70 billion to electrify its cars and increase battery production. Toyota hopefully aims to sell at least 3.5 million battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in 2030.
Remodeling
According to Toyota President Akio Toyoda, in order to reach a goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050, it is necessary to investigate the possibility of remodeling existing vehicles. Only one in every 20 cars in Japan is brand new, and the majority of older vehicles use wholly or partly gasoline models.
Toyoda, a race car driver, and self-confessed car enthusiast stated at the event that it’s necessary to leave a choice for cars that are already cherished or owned by someone.
To acquire the appeal points of sound and vibration that one would get from a gas engine, but without the carbon emissions, Toyota aims to modify a model to make its original engine run on hydrogen. There’s no use speculating that some of the original components of the hydrogen-powered venture will be very efficient since the majority of hydrogen-powered cars use hydrogen in fuel cells rather than engines.
It’s not like there is a tonne of AE86s simply lying around to be repaired and modified, but Toyota intimated during its press conference that it’s at least thinking about attempting to make things easier for people seeking to convert their own personal vehicles away from gasoline.
