BYD YangWang U8 EREV SUV
A well-known Chinese automaker, BYD, recently launched the brand-new BYD YangWang U8 EREV SUV to the Chinese market. Because the YangWang U8 EREV SUV has a feature that distinguishes it in the market—it can walk and float on water—BYD has been actively marketing this electric SUV over the past few months.
The YangWang, a BYD subsidiary brand established specifically to target the luxury vehicle market, has introduced the BYD YangWang U8 EREV SUV in two variants: the Premium Edition and the Off-road Edition.
The premium edition, whose deliveries will start in October, will be the variant that becomes available shortly after the BYD YangWang U8 EREV SUV’s introduction. Later, the Off-road Master version will be available.
Beyond this ground-breaking functionality, the BYD YangWang U8 EREV SUV also boasts great characteristics and qualifies as a high-performance electric SUV.
In this post, we will explore some of the BYD YangWang U8 EREV SUV’s most noteworthy characteristics and provide an overview of its specifications.
Design and Looks
Given that it was unveiled by YangWang, BYD’s luxury subsidiary, the BYD YangWang U8 EREV SUV has a highly upscale appearance. The majority of the exterior’s surfaces are painted silver, with black serving as a contrast. Overall, this electric SUV has a really attractive yet aggressive appearance.
Although it hasn’t yet been made available for purchase, the BYD YangWang U8 EREV SUV Off-road master variation definitely lives up to its name. It has a more rugged-looking front bumper that extends towards the bottom of the car to defend against collision in the wild. Additionally, it has a snorkel and a removable roof rack with a side ladder.
Speaking of BYD YangWang U8 EREV SUV interior, the majority of the components have been upholstered in Nappa leather, and there are 6 enormous screens, including a 23.6′′ infotainment screen for the co-pilot and a 12.8′′ central control screen.

Specifications
CLTC range | 112 miles |
Top speed | 124 mph |
Horsepower | 880 kW or 1197 hp |
Acceleration (0-62 mph) | 3.6 seconds |
Curb weight | 3460 kg |

Its CLTC range appears to be lesser, however, the YangWang U8 EREV SUV is an electric range-extended vehicle (EREV), identical to the Li Auto. It denotes the presence of an ICE that serves as a battery power generator without being attached to the wheels. In this instance, a 49.05 kWh Blade battery with LFP chemistry is powered by a 2.0L turbo.
Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) technology has been implemented to it, meaning the battery is incorporated into the chassis. With a full battery and a 75-liter fuel tank, the total range is 621 miles, which is the range under CLTC terms, which is 112 miles.
The YangWang U8 EREV SUV has a 6-kW vehicle-to-load (VTL) discharge capability that can power electronic devices for up to 25 hours and enables DC rapid charging up to 110 kW.
Floating Mode
The Disus-P hydraulic body control system on the YangWang U8 EREV SUV, which is based on an e4 chassis, enables the vehicle to rise and descend by up to 150 mm.
According to the producers, the Off-road Master Edition of the YangWang U8 EREV SUV can wade up to 1,400 mm whereas the premium version can only wade a maximum of 1,000 mm.
The YangWang U8 EREV SUV’s wading mode uses the vehicle’s sensors to keep an eye on the surrounding area, the level of the water, the status of the wheels, and other factors. When the vehicle deviates beyond the permitted depth, the emergency floating mode is automatically initiated.
When activated, Disus-P raises the suspension to its highest setting, automatically closes the windows, switches the air conditioning to internal circulation, and opens the sunroof to provide an emergency exit. Additionally, the vehicle’s central control panel may show the water’s depth and attitude.
Technology used
Without the utilization of cutting-edge technology, none of the floating features or other outstanding characteristics would have been feasible. For this reason, the Nvidia Drive Orin SoC technology, which has a computational power of 508 TOPS, is integrated into the YangWang U8 EREV SUV. It receives input from 38 sensors, including 13 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, 3 lidars, and 5-millimetre wave radars.
Conclusion
Because the YangWang U8 EREV SUV is a premium electric SUV and will be one of the costliest electric vehicles from BYD ever, the producers have decided to employ the direct sales approach to market this electric vehicle so that everything would be under their control.
