BMW i5 Electric Sedan
Exciting news from BMW as they release the first official teaser image of their all-electric mid-size BMW i5 Series. Despite being under wraps, we can tell from the silhouette that the design is sleek and sophisticated, with a hint of sportiness. But that’s not all – BMW is also introducing a battery-powered wagon version, as well as an M-branded performance electric vehicle.
Gobel Launch
Global launch in October According to Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW, the global launch of the new BMW i5 Electric sedan is set for October this year, with the i5 Sedan also making an appearance. And for European markets, there’s, even more, to look forward to – the BMW i5 Touring, a long-roof 5er that’s always been popular in the region.
Specifications
Powerful Performance But let’s talk about the M-branded performance electric vehicle. While there’s not much information available yet, an educated guess based on the powertrain of the i4 M50 suggests that it will feature a dual-motor powertrain with at least 536 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque. And with the i4 M50 boasting a 0-62 miles per hour sprint time of just 3.9 seconds, we can only imagine what the i5 M60 (as it’s expected to be called) will be capable of.
More Options
For those who aren’t ready to make the switch to a battery-powered 5 Series just yet, fear not – BMW will also offer plug-in hybrid, gasoline, and diesel engines for the new generation model, depending on the region. And no matter which powertrain you choose, the 5 Series will come equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
Technology
When it comes to technology, BMW is not holding back. The recently announced iDrive 8.5 infotainment system will come standard across the range, ensuring that drivers and passengers stay connected and entertained.
Future plans
And with the launch of the Neue Klasse line-up in two years, we can expect even more cutting-edge features. Coming to Malaysia For our friends in Malaysia, BMW is preparing to launch the i7 and the iX1, which will join the iX, the iX3, and the i4 that are already available for purchase.
Writer’s Note
With so many exciting options on the horizon, it’s clear that BMW is committed to leading the way in the world of electric and hybrid vehicles.
