Consumer Perception Towards Buying Electric Vehicles

The Consumer Perception Towards Buying Electric Vehicles has been growing in India over the last few years. Electric two-wheelers, in particular, are propelling EV adoption in India, boosted by the pandemic’s greater need for personal mobility.

According to a recent study, the number of electric vehicle sales increased by 200 percent year over year in December 2021.

Several standards are being established to reward and encourage electric vehicle manufacturers, as well as to provide benefits to early adopters of the technology.

For the first time, electric – vehicle registrations have exceeded 50,000 vehicles in a single month of December 2021, thanks to multiple new model debuts and new companies entering the market. Electric scooters are gaining traction faster than electric passenger cars.

Recently, CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon musk said responding to a tweet from a person asking him about any update on when Tesla will launch in India.

In answer, he indicated that he is still struggling with the several ‘challenges’ from the government. Musk tweeted, “Still working through a lot of issues with the administration.” After Elon Musk tweets about India’s challenges faced by Tesla, the CEO gets offers from the Telangana government, West Bengal & Maharashtra.

Why are we Indians moving to Electric Vehicles?

  • Environment Friendly:

Cars emit a significant amount of carbon dioxide into the environment, making us vulnerable to pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

An electric car is a huge step forward in terms of helping the environment we live in.

  • Benefits of Government Subsidies:

You can get government subsidies for being environmentally responsible if you buy an electric automobile. Even though you may end up spending more on your automobile, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

EV is being charged by the electricity you provide, you can charge your vehicle by normal household socket at home or workplace.

EVs can be recharged at extremely low prices, and many new cars will provide excellent incentives for going green, such as money back from the government under schemes FAME 1 and FAME 2 as well state subsidies.

  • Low Running Cost Vehicle:

The cost of operating EVs is far more cost-effective than operating conventional vehicles. it also helps to save money in our daily life. find out the cost savings by adopting EVs

Electric cars are safer to drive because they have a lower center of gravity, making them more stable on the road in the event of an accident.

  • Automatic Driving System

Electric cars have the easiest driving method in the world of autos. Electric automobiles use electrically driven engines, which eliminates the need for lubrication, everything linked to the combustion engine, and a slew of other maintenance responsibilities that come with a petrol engine.

  • Less Maintenance Vehicle

You won’t have to take it to the mechanic as frequently as you would with a regular gasoline-powered vehicle. Electric automobiles reduce noise pollution since they are quieter. Over longer distances, electric motors can provide a smooth drive with higher acceleration.

Factors Affecting Consumer Perception for Buying EV?

Most of these factors like Battery, Cost, performance, charging infrastructure, and after-sales services are negatively affecting Consumer Perception to buy electric vehicles in India.

There are a few drawbacks that everyone should consider before making a decision of buying an electric car as their next big investment. Electric recharging stations are still in the early stages of development.

  • A fewer number of electric charging stations

Because many places you visit but do not have electric fueling stations for your vehicle, it can be hard to find a charging station if you’re on a long trip or visiting family in a remote rural area and don’t have a charge. as You may get stuck in your current situation.

  • EV Range Anxiety

The range and speed of electric vehicles are limited. Plus, the Battery state of charge is not as accurate. Some users are facing issues with the BMS (Battery management system).

In some cases, Software had to be downgraded for owners.

Most of these cars have a 200+ km range in a single charge and need to be recharged again. Hence, you can’t use them for longer trips as of now, it is expected to improve in the future.

While it only takes a few minutes to fill up your combustion engine car, it takes 4-6 hours, and sometimes even a day, to fully charge an electric vehicle.

As a result, dedicated power stations are required because charging them takes a long time. However, what does this mean in practice for the people who buy and use these vehicles?

  • Lack of Service center

In normal vehicles, if something goes wrong in the middle of the road, you can find a garage or a workshop nearby to get it fixed. For electric vehicles, there is no other option than towing a vehicle to the dealership.

All the user interface on the cluster and infotainment system about the vehicle PowerDrive and battery state of charge is provided by the complex working of hardware and software algorithms.

To understand this vehicle, you need a technician with deep knowledge of electrical systems. Currently, there are no dedicated service centers in India for 4W Electric vehicles.

  • EV Automobile After-sales Service Impact

One of the most common concerns that impede the adoption of electric vehicles is complex maintenance. Regular vehicles have large numbers of mechanical and moving parts, so even though electric vehicles have much fewer.

An EV’s components are also easier to fix and therefore do not wear out as quickly.

The built-in online connectivity systems play a significant role in the upkeep of an EV. Software updates are a standard part of an electric vehicle’s maintenance service.

  • Softwares Issues especially with IoT Connect Vehicles

These updates may, for example, boost range or braking distance. While some of these updates are as of now performed in a workshop by certified professionals, it won’t be long before customers can benefit from regular software updates that happen automatically over the internet from the comfort of their own homes.

One of the major concerns about Buying Electric vehicles is their repair. Repairing electric vehicles can be dangerous if precautions are not taken.

  • Repairing Electric Vehicles can be Dangerous

Class 0 high voltage gloves rated to 1,000 volts are needed for disabling the battery and handling high voltage parts to avoid electrocution. Wearing jewelry increases the possibility of being electrocuted. Defective volt-ohm meters could explode when you’re checking voltage throughout the vehicle.

You want to make sure you’re wearing protective suits if you’re going to be near a vehicle that has been so damaged that it’s leaking electrolyte chemicals. Fiberglass poles are required that can be used to pull technicians away from the vehicle if they get electrocuted. It’s dangerous to put high voltage parts on anything metal.

When repairing electric vehicles, dealers must also consider the safety of their technicians.

Currently, None of the authorized service dealers are trying thinking to establish dedicated service bays equipped with the tools required to perform EV maintenance work, as well as the necessary safety equipment, such as rubber mats to provide additional protection from the danger of electrocution.

Which are safety protocols provided in the user’s vehicle maintenance/service manual but they do not follow in the service center.
