A concerning incident involving a Bajaj Chetak electric scooter caught public attention after a video of smoke emanating from the vehicle went viral. Shared widely on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the footage highlights a thermal issue with the electric two-wheeler at a busy traffic signal on Jalna Road, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Following the event, Bajaj Auto has initiated an investigation to uncover the cause.

Details of the Fire incident: 

Smoke was seen coming from a Bajaj Chetak electric scooter at a busy traffic signal on Jalna Road in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, creating a stir among onlookers. Two farmers, Bhagwan Chavan and Ravindra Chavan, who had come to the city to buy water pipes, noticed the smoke while waiting at the signal.

They quickly moved the scooter to the side and called for help. The fire brigade responded promptly, sending a team from the Seven Hills fire station. The team sprayed water on the scooter, successfully stopping the smoke. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the smoke is still being investigated.

Potential EV Fire Causes:

Battery Fault: The battery pack might have suffered from manufacturing defects, physical damage, or degradation due to age or environmental conditions (e.g., extreme temperatures).

BMS (Battery Management System) Failure: If the BMS fails to monitor or control the battery parameters effectively, it could lead to overcharging, undercharging, or imbalance among the cells, precipitating thermal events.

Electrical Issues: Faulty wiring or connections within the scooter’s electrical system could cause short circuits, leading to overheating.

Software Malfunction: The software controlling the battery might have miscalculated power management or voltage regulation, leading to improper battery handling.
