Amara Raja Lithium-ion Giga factory 

Amara Raja Batteries Ltd organized a grand groundbreaking ceremony on May 7, 2023, to inaugurate Telangana’s first Giga factory in the Mahbubnagar district. The facility will produce Lithium Cells and Battery Packs with a maximum capacity of 16 GWh and 5 GWh, respectively. The ceremony was attended by Telangana’s Industries Minister, KT Rama Rao, and the Founder and Chairman of Amara Raja Group, Ramachandra N Galla, along with the company’s Managing Director, Jayadev Galla.

Investment in the Upcoming Years 

Amara Raja Batteries Ltd announced plans to invest more than Rs 9,500 crore over the next 10 years to establish a greenfield manufacturing facility for Lithium-ion batteries in Telangana, along with a dedicated research and development center.

Capacity of the Giga factory 

The inauguration ceremony of the “Amara Raja Giga Corridor” project by Amara Raja Batteries Ltd marked the beginning of the production of Lithium Cells and Battery Packs. The facility is capable of manufacturing up to 16GWh and 5GWh, respectively, of these products.

The Bhoomi pooja ceremony is a major achievement in our journey, and our strategic initiative goes beyond just establishing the Giga Corridor. The goal is to offer stable employment opportunities to local youth while building a sustainable ecosystem that promotes economic development, addresses environmental challenges, and ensures social welfare.

Minister Rama Rao said, “Electric mobility remains a focus area for the Telangana government and we are committed to developing the right infrastructure and ecosystem for the promotion and adoption of EVs.”

Telangana has been a frontrunner in adopting sustainability, and it is a proud moment for the state to celebrate the ground-breaking ceremony of Amara Raja Batteries’ first Lithium Cell and Battery Pack Manufacturing facility, he added.
