Together unveil the world’s fastest charging electric 3-wheeler

● The vehicle delivers a city drive range of 80-85 kms and charges up in 15 minutes at
Exponent’s e^pump charging network.
● The vehicle has an 8.19kWh e^pack, a proprietary battery by Exponent, built using
regular LFP cell chemistry, making this the first rapid charging solution that’s
affordable and scalable.
● Rapid charging network of 100 e^pumps will be set up in Bengaluru in FY’23. Other
cities to follow.
● Customer deliveries will begin in October 2022.
● Dr. Pawan Munjal, Chairman, and CEO, Hero MotoCorp has also invested
an undisclosed amount in Exponent Energy from his family office.

On Wednesday, 3 August 2022, Altigreen Propulsion Labs, an electric commercial vehicle manufacturer, and Exponent Energy, a startup that simplifies energy for EVs, partnered to create rapid charging for eCVs on Indian roadways. Under this, they have come together to build the world’s fastest-charging electric three-wheeler, which has the ability to charge to 100% from flat in 15 minutes.

In order to provide the cleanest last-mile transportation, Altigreen is aggressively expanding its R&D and production capabilities and building a strong pan-India distribution network thanks to a new round of investment totaling INR 300 Cr. led by Sixth Sense Ventures, Reliance New Energy, Xponentia Capital, and others. The benefits of Exponent’s 15-minute quick charging will be made available throughout India using the same method.

Arun Vinayak, the Co-Founder of Exponent Energy, said that Altigreen was the first OEM that they had met, even before they started Exponent. In that meeting, the idea of building a battery pack that could charge in 15 minutes came up, and Altigreen had said that they would gladly adopt it into their vehicles. In the press release, he said, “For all of India to go electric, EVs need to charge faster and last longer. Our e^pack & e^pump make this possible with 15-minute rapid charging and 3000 cycle life warranty (a new industry standard).”

An exclusive battery made by Exponent, the 8.19 kWh e^pack that has been built using regular LFP cell chemistry and is thus affordable, is used in the Exponent Enabled Altigreen neEV HD. The car has an 80–85 km city driving range and charges at Exponent’s e^pump network in 15 minutes. This is accomplished by the e^pump providing the e^pack with 600A of current (which is 15 times the industry standard) while controlling the thermals of each individual cell to guarantee safety, a long battery life, and consistent performance even at 50 degrees Celsius. There would be a network of 100 Rapid Charging e^pumps set up in Bengaluru in FY’23. The customer deliveries of the three-wheelers is to begin in October 2022.

Dr. Amitabh Saran, Founder & CEO of Altigreen Propulsion Labs, commented on the first-ever deployment of 15-minute quick charging for eCVs: At Altigreen, we are continually trying to push the boundaries of innovation for both cars and technology. Because we have always put the driver first and strive to go above and beyond their expectations, we are the market leaders in terms of driving range, ground clearance, volumetric load capacity, and vehicle speed. We will soon be the fastest 3-wheeler that offers our customers flexibility and independence while also enabling them to earn more money thanks to our cooperation with Exponent.

Exponent had spent 18 months collecting data of thousands of charging cycles, which is equivalent to lakhs of kilometers, for the evolution of the e^pack. Finally, after 6 months of joint development and on-road testing, done closely with Altigreen, the technology of e^pack has hit its peak maturity and is ready to be out in the markets.

The chairman and CEO of Hero MotoCorp, Dr. Pawan Munjal, has also made an undisclosed investment in Exponent Energy through his family office. This would help with setting up the e^pumps network in Bengaluru, and other cities will follow suit in association with Altigreen.
